I am just changing my horses insurance now she is broken and going out and about. How much do I value her for insurance and is this different from her 'selling' value?

She is a 16.2hh ISH X AA reg arab horse society, rising 4, good lines (Miners lamp) and very good allrounder. Well put together no particular confo faults and very good mover, with brilliant temperament. She is broken working well and very promising, will start competing this year.

Any ideas - I was going for about £2500 - £3000 - I brought her for £1800 as a two year old.

Unless you are insuring for LOU, I wouldn't change her value.
Might as well keep your premiums as low as you can.

Depends really, mine are under insured

but I insure mainly for vets fees and don't do LOU.

Only scenario when it would become an issue (I think) is if any of them had to be PTS and the value of the horse was paid out - I'd never be able to afford to replace them on what they're insured for.

As has been said, unless you want to insure for LOU then don't place too high a value on your horse as the main thing you want is vet cover. The only down side is that if anything happens & you lose your horse you will get a lesser value paid out. Once you value a horse over £5k then the premiums really start to rise & vet certificates are required. Many Pros with horses don't insure at the true value of the horse so they can keep premiums down & still have vet cover.
