So, I was wondering if some showing people would be able to help me out with a few queries! I show at local/county level with my home produced SHP, we are moving onto a 148cm SP and I was wondering how these classes differ? (I do have a slight clue, just don't want to make an idiot of myself!) Also, at what level will you need to strip the ponies and does anyone have any advice on that? (Have only had to do it a few times!) Another thing, could somebody please give me some help with sharks teeth (never been able to do them very well! By that I mean at all :rolleyes:...) I also was wondering what people would include in their individual show, sorry to sound so totally clueless!! :)
 
Why are you changing classes from hunter pony to show pony? These really are two different types. Show ponies are the pretty pretty daisy cutting movement very fine in bone and wear bling bling brow bands. Hunter ponies have more bone should look like mini middle weight hunters and move more workman like. Wear plain brow bands and heavier weight if bridle.
Individual show are the same. My usual show is to walk away trot before the first corner, change the rein and pick up canter change rein again with several strides if trot canter again in opposite rein lengthen down long side, or in my case a good gooing gallop (I ride welsh cobs) then return to trot and then halt. A case of short and sweet is what Judges are looking for.

There is a video on line that shows you how to do sharks teeth then its a case of practice practice practice.
 
Changing classes as I have grown out of my 133cm, we bought her as a jumper who had barely been schooled, but I realised I didn't want to jump and focused on showing :) Thanks for the advice!
 
Oops forgot about stripping. Even at local level a Judge may wish you to strip. You present your pony to the Judge exactly like you were doing an in hand class.

Best advice is to go along to a couple of shows as a spectator and see just what these classes entail. Check rules of schedule and which society they are competing under and see if you are able to do the novice classes if possible. A case of not jumping into the deep end if you can possibly help it.
 
Are you personally out of age for the 13hh height so needing to move on to the show pony classes? If so very few ponies are successful in both classes and as a 13hh she would only be allowed in the 13.2hh show pony classes not the 148cm as she will be too small
 
My old pony is for sale as yes I am out of the class, and we are in the process of buying a 14.2 SP (sorry if that wasn't clear) I know that she is DEFINITELY not a show pony, and also that she would be too small for a 148 :)
 
Ah things are now clear lol. OK you know that your outfit will need to change, out with the the tweed and in with the blue and going. Make sure that the pony you buy is clean limbed, no bumps are cuts as Judges in so classes are less forgiving. Find out how pony is bred you may find you can do a part bred class as well as so.And use you head not heart when pony hunting, be very critical try and buy the very best within your budget. Or look for a large breed M&M like a Connie and go back into the hunter pony classes and when to old you can still compete in the M&M classes. Good luck.
