I'm ready to order a pallet if pellets, recently tried Verdo but I find them very dark and I'm going through more than I did last year even though last winter I had 1 on box rest and others out every other day; this winter they are out everyday. so i'm looking at trying a different company. they leave it to you with regards to which VAT box to tick ...... what do you guys do? :D

I pay the full VAT - my horse is a luxury so why shouldn't I pay a fair price, that contributes to the current economic problems in the country.

I might agree if I didn't have to pay VAT on sanitary towel/tampax. How are they a LUXURY?

Exchange is not robbery! ;)

Actually, they're rated at 5% after much lobbying from the industry. However the reusable retailers were much disgusted to note that when the VAT rate was reduced that the throw-away manufacturers/retailers did NOT reduce the rrp they simply pocketed the difference.
If you really want to save money, try mooncup or washable pads - far more comfortable and not a rip-off at all.

OP : I'd ask for part VAT and part fuel. That way you're covered and won't feel too guilty

That's quite a good idea dubsie :-)
I wrote a long rant about vat and tax and paying alot and having a lot taken back away (I'm a single mum and had my child tax credits taken away this year) but I didn't post it lol! I do pay a lot of tax and vat and do pay my way as does my business (which I think should not have the vat added as its for babies- but it does) but I also feel strongly about paying what you should (I don't buy coffee in Starbucks any more!) at the minute though I feel I am having a lot of help taken away and I'm not playing the game some businesses do to avoid paying tax and vat (I don't want to either) feel unjustly penalised in many ways! 1/2 and 1/2 might be the way to go

It's fraud if you use them for bedding and don't pay VAT. Simple. I don't think the VAT on sanitary products is going to put you on the breadline.

Just a quick question then (just occurred to me ;-) ) if you have size 5 feet or less do you buy adult shoes/boots and pay the VAT or buy the children's with no VAT? When I tried to buy my daughter Uggs in a size 4 they had run out as adults buy them. If u would then isn't that the same as not paying the vat on bedding??? .......

Different issue IMO. Lucky if you can get shoes without VAT, no law says you have to buy them for only kids. Wood pellets state that they are VAT exempt for fuel, not other purposes. You're not defrauding anyone by buying small shoes.

This. Its Vat fraud unless you are using for fuel, and Wood pellets don't work esp well in anything other than a wood pellet boiler - so having a log burner won't wash ESP not with a tonne and half of em underneath your horse.....

The children's shoe thing is a good comparison although a key difference may be that you might buy a couple of pairs of shoes a year via this method, maybe £50 - £100. In theory you shoudnt buy them unless for children. Ayears supply of wood pellets is a bigger amount potentially with more of a paper trail and dealing with a more regulated industry

I find peace of mind worth a lot more than the difference in Vat.....Plus I'm honest (no I wouldn't buy the children's shoes, but then it's unlikely anyway given my shoe size!

My 'child' has been a size 7 for years (and still a child-just!) so if her shoes have vat added and mine don't then fair swap lol! (and i buy her more shoes than i buy myself!) there aren't many children's shoes I'd wear just boots like uggs and trainers :-)
In the end (back to the wood pellets) I went for the more expensive ones and the tick box disappeared (it was there for the cheaper option) so I think it was full vat for premium horse bedding with the word horse in it! Temptation was taken away! I don't disagree with those that dont pay the vat, overall we pay a lot if tax and vat whilst some people are cheating the benefit system and others own horses long term whilst on benefits (I'm not talking about those that need to for a period if time, that's what the system is there for) if we need more money going to the govt then they need to get the likes of Starbucks paying what they should :-)

I paid full vat. Had them delivered and put in spare stable so a bit obvious. Also in the grand scheme of keeping horses it isn't a lot of money
