A friend is selling a W reg (2000) 2.2 diesel turbo, five door Frontera with 60K miles at a reasonable price.

Has anyone here got one, had one or any experience of them?

It must be able to tow a trailer and a horse and pony.

OH had one and loved it - preferred it to his Disco

I used a friends petrol 2.3?? to tow a little 15.2hh to a dealers in an Ifor 510 and returned with a 16.2 HW and to be fair it towed brilliantly - would def go for diesel for towing if I was buying though.

Must admit I'd heard nothing but bad until I drove it (wasn't with OH at that point) and thought it didn't deserve the reputation.

OH misses his too! He sold it to a friends dad for towing and it's still going strong now

I've got one and it has been brilliant so far. It always gets there in it's own time though. My friend drove it and preferred it to his terrano as it's, cough, lack of acceleration made it easier to tow the horses nicely. it's not been stuck once yet and we even towed someone's mitsubushi out of some mud once! I think it's great for those of us with a tighter budget

i don't think a 2.2 diesel will have enough "pull" to tow a trailer with a horse and pony...

you will be forever going up and down the gearbox! LOL!

try and get something at least a 2.5.....or better still a 2.8 turbo diesel.

Thank you for your replies - Having chatted to a mechanic friend he tells me that they have an Isuzu engine who normally make much larger engines. I am also not sure whether it would be big enough to tow (we live in a very, very hilly area!!)

Also forgot to mention that it is automatic - which puts me off a bit.
