Hi,

Still trying to make up my mind about my next tow car - now thinking about a Vauxhall Frontera 2.2 petrol. To tow Ifor Williams 505 plus one 16.2 horse? Anyone with experience of these please?

I have the 2.8i diesel short-wheel base - it is excellent to tow with even though the poor thing is very old and has loads of miles on the clock. I personally wouldn't go for any other model of Frontera however, they haven't got the power to tow effectively

were in the same boat, just been looking at fronteras, found a 2.5 diesel short wheel base sport edition, looked up the towing weights and it's max is 2000kg i think which would be enough for a trailer and one horse we were told! but also will be looking at long wheel based ones, anyone got any ideas?
xx

I had a frontera 2.0 sport a few years ago and I towed a double Bahill trailer with a 14.2hh. It managed fine. If I had the choice would have had an estate as there is no boot whatsoever in the sport model, just about enough for a grooming kit!!.

I had a Frontera 2 litre sport and towed a Ivor Williams 505 with a 16hh TB and often also a chunky 14.2 hh in it...for a year or so ...no problem at all...mind you it is relatively flat around here.

I didn't like the miles/gallon though!

H, my dad had an 2.2TDI Frontera Estate, and that pulled our ifor trailer easily with a 15.2 heavy cob and a 16.2 TB in it. I recommened fronteras to anyone, they are fantastic. Although, i would recommend DIESEL not petrol, as they dont do as much milage to the gallon. Ours did about 45miles to the gallon.

Im not knocking anyones car we all have our preferences but we have 3 friends in car trade and they told us to avoid them too many engine problems .On this advice I bought a terrano its been great for towing three of us use the same car on our yard. The long wheel base seems to be the best option if not you cant get your tack in with two horses.Just trying to give you another opinion glad everyone is happy with their car as long as they do the job I dont think any of us mind .

LOL - my diesel does 31 to the gallon, must be something to do with the way I drive (when not towing of course)

DONT DO IT!!!!!

Their certainly not renouned for being blessed in the pulling department

PLUS Your little trips out in your 505 will cost you an absolute arm & a leg (particularly in a Petrol)

If you want a good towing vehicle have a look at Diahatsu Fourtraks, the dont manufacter them anymore, lastest model is an S maybe T reg. They do hold their value though but well worth it. I've got a 93 model, had it 7 years and it's never elt me down & pulls like a trojen!

we have a 2.2lwb petrol with a trooper engine, tows very very well & not really had any problems with it at all

We have just got another frontera, and we have never had any problems with any of ours. My dads old 1 he had for almost 6 years. The only thing that it needed was a new exhaust. We all have our own opinions!!
