I'm having dreadful trouble getting a velvet hat for my son to wear in the show ring. He currently has one of the adjustable lightweight endurance type hats as he needs a wide hat (c.7 1/8") but is very short from brow to back of hear, hence the need to adjust or make safe in some other way. Any suggestions? I discovered tonight that Just Togs do an adjustable "showjumper" style hat but I need a velvet one for M&M showing.

Safety is and will also be my first consideration and if he has to wear his existing "shiny" hat or some thing else non-standard (a protector?) then so be it but I would like to follow up all safe avenues first.

Help!

I always have this problem. Skull caps and endurance hats are fine, but velvet hats squish the sides of my head and I can fit my fist in front or behind my head.

Its stupid as I'm sure no one has oval shaped heads but they seem to make velvet hats this way.

I think I have the showjumper 2000 or something in a velvet hat (with the flesh harness) and just do the strap across the back of the hat up really tight. It still wobbles though and when I used to try jumping in it it always dropped down in front of my eyes.

If safety is your first concern, I'd stick with a skull cap with a velvet silk for now, and just keep trying on any velvet hats you come across in the hope that one will do.
