Do they work? Now its getting warmer I'm sick of taking my hat off, and looking like I've just dunked my head in a bucket of water! Yuckk! Has anyone got any recommendations please? (there's not many reviews out there) and has anyone tried the Caldene Ultra or the Charles Owen Ayr8?

Many thanks Xx

Ive not found any hat ventilated or not that doesnt give me that look!! Ive just accepted it now and keep dry shampoo and a hair brush at the yard which makes it look a little nicer.

I have tried Caldene Ultra and it is better than a normal hat, but it does not prevent "hat hair". To be honest I found my old sprint air slightly cooler, but the lining on the caldene comes out for washing and it fits lower at the back of the head for more protection. If you have the money the GPA speed airs are probably the best, however not always easy to get hold of.

Uvex, lovely!! But really when you get a sweat on you do so whatever you have on your head! The hat can improve matters but yesterday I rode at 8am in 30° and when it's hot it's hot!!

that's why I got the gatehouse- damn site cheaper than some and just as protective! They have a slightly 'posher' looking one too but as mine was mostly for hacking and schooling I wasn't too worried and liked the idea of dial adjustment so I can loosen it if I get a heat headache.

GlamourPuss86 I haven't heard if that one before? Shall have to try it tomorrow if its warm :) thanks for the suggestions everyone will go and try out a few this weekend :)x

Charles Owen 4 star - son has one and loves it, it's much cooler than any other vented hat or skull he has had. Even after using it for all three phases at an event on a hot day it was completely dry inside. Unfortunately I can't comment on the hat hair as his hair and styling aren't well aquainted :D

I've got a "Tipperary" vented hat (got from Performance Equestrian stand at equine fair).

Light, durable, and cool! And didn't break the bank either.

Nice little summer riding hat :)

I recently got one of these too from Yellow Patch - very much less of a 'hat head' look than I usually have after riding!

Very lightweight and comfortable

Mine's great! Wearing it for four hours feels like wearing my normal skull cap for an hour!

It's a Champion vented skull cap, and turns out to be the best £70 I've ever spent....!

Think it depends on how good the venting is - champion ventair = sweaty head (though maybe a bit better than standard skull). My gatehouse conquest however keeps my head noticeably cooler and much less sweaty :).

To add - It seems the couple of posters above really like the champion though :). I haven't ridden in a non vented for ages so perhaps the champion is a lot better than a normal hat, but for me there is again a noticeable improvement wearing my gatehouse :).
