Venues 'secretive' about BD judges

Why will some BD venues not tell you who is judging, even if you ask within a few days of the competition date. I've left it close enough so they now know roughly how many entries they will have.

I know with our RC we often don’t know how many judges we’ll use until the final entries are in. Unfortunately these days, with entries being so low, we often have to stand down a judge.

Just curious, is there a particular reason people need to know who’s judging? Conflict of interest or something? Or just that people don’t like a particular judge?
It usually because they don’t like a particular judge!

OP - it’s often tricky to confirm which judges for which classes until final times are done. Plus the venue is prob trying to avoid early withdrawals based on the above judge preference!

I have to admit there is one judge I do now avoid, she is so negative and derogatory about those she doesn't like, that she destroys my confidence and enjoyment of the sport, and I am simply not prepared to put myself through that. ( and pay for the privilege!)

I will freely admit that I have done some fairly poor tests in front of her, but some have been much better ( with the video to prove it ), but the marks and remarks stay the same, even across several totally different horses!

This is my exact situation.

There’s a BD judge near me who everyone agrees it’s not worth competing under if you’ve got anything under 15.2 or cobby. Warmbloods and TBs only need bother to show up.

I’ve seen people arrive at venues, see her and load their horse up again and go home.

I once saw exactly half a class withdraw (incl me) when times were published, along with the name of the judge. I've decided now I'm simply not going if I'm not given a fair crack at the whip by a judge who clearly dislikes a type, but I can't afford to withdraw once times are published.
