Hi, I know this post should probably be in stable yard but I just wanted the opinion of some competition riders.
I have a five-year old dressage horse and he has really big movement, I don't make him do it, he just does it naturally even in the field. He is a right show-off and always piaffe's around the field even when I turn him out with his ancient companions!!! I am paranoid that he is going to pull something or knock himself, as he is quite a large horse and quite boisterous due to him just being gelded also. With his movement when I watch him during lunging for example, his pasterns are quite flexible, so his fetlocks on the rear can come quite close to the floor if you are in a really deep school.
I was looking at the veredus piaffe boots and wondered if these may protect his young legs for everyday schooling and lunging. I have always used either brushing boots or bandages, so was just wondering if anybody thinks they are any good. Does anybody know how clean they keep, with them being neoprene does sand and shavings stick to them and do they take ages to dry after washing? Would they withstand everyday work? Are they worth £60 a pair or am I better off bandaging up or buying ordinary support boots. Also I have heard they can be used under bandages, is this true? I would have thought they would be quite bulky and with bandages on top may look like the horse has toilet rolls round his legs?

Also I was looking at the eskadron over-reach boots with fur around the top. They look nice but are they practical. Would you say they are better to save for clinics/special occasions or are they good enough for everyday use?
Would love to know if anybody else has any good ideas for adequate booting for this horse as he cost me a lot of money and I would hate for him to injure himself in any way just as he is beginning his career, plus he has four white legs which I don't think are as hardy as black legs?

Sorry to rant on but any info or recommendations would be great

I use premier equine over reach boots for everyday use and they are really good.

My horse is 17'3 and 6 and also very big moving. For schooling i just use equlibrium training wraps which dont make the legs sweat as much as normal boots.

i did buy the piaffe boots once, but sent them back - they are really bulky and not very attractive on!

Hiya, yeh that's what I thought, I saw them in the saddlery shop at BD winter champs and thought they looked a bit too thick to put under bandages. There's soo many boot's and wraps out there I just don't want to end up with an expensive collection of useless ones!!! The thing that attracted me to them was the thick strap that goes around and under the fetlock as our new school hasn't settled yet and can get a little deep if it has rained a lot (lol like it has the last 2 weeks).
Was looking at premier equines website and they do three different types of support boots and some for only £8!! I wonder how good they are?! Their £30 ones seem pretty similar with tendon support as well. Not too bothered about appeareance cos they are only for home, I always bandage up for clinics and warming up at competitions.
Oh PG has any of the fluff come off when you have washed your over reach boots, I had a set of fleece lined eskadron jumping boots once and after about the tenth wash the sheepskin looked very sad and worn!

Parisienne_Girl: do they wash up well? i think they look soooo smart but someone said to me that they dont always wash well

I have the piaffe boots and the eskadron fur overreavh boots, they are both great.. if you dont think about the price! W only use for shows as they are easy to put on/take off.. I would just use some good brushing boots/bandages with normal non slip moulded OR boots at home..
xmatx

Oh great news, I am defo going to get some of the furry overreach boots, still pondering over the piaffe boots, heard mixed reports, just want to make sure I give him the best protection I can without wasting my time money on various boots. I would sooner go and pay a lot for a set of boots if they are going to do the job than get something cheaper that are going to be a waste of time. Hmm can't decide what to do. And then there is colour?!!!! He has white legs so I should buy white but then they would spend most of their life looking grubby, so I guess black would be better.

cool...well maybe i will have to treat myself to a pair!! they look so nice and i love the fluffy bits!!!
