Hi, I know this post should probably be in stable yard but I just wanted the opinion of some competition riders.
I have a five-year old dressage horse and he has really big movement, I don't make him do it, he just does it naturally even in the field. He is a right show-off and always piaffe's around the field even when I turn him out with his ancient companions!!! I am paranoid that he is going to pull something or knock himself, as he is quite a large horse and quite boisterous due to him just being gelded also. With his movement when I watch him during lunging for example, his pasterns are quite flexible, so his fetlocks on the rear can come quite close to the floor if you are in a really deep school.
I was looking at the veredus piaffe boots and wondered if these may protect his young legs for everyday schooling and lunging. I have always used either brushing boots or bandages, so was just wondering if anybody thinks they are any good. Does anybody know how clean they keep, with them being neoprene does sand and shavings stick to them and do they take ages to dry after washing? Would they withstand everyday work? Are they worth £60 a pair or am I better off bandaging up or buying ordinary support boots. Also I have heard they can be used under bandages, is this true? I would have thought they would be quite bulky and with bandages on top may look like the horse has toilet rolls round his legs?
Also I was looking at the eskadron over-reach boots with fur around the top. They look nice but are they practical. Would you say they are better to save for clinics/special occasions or are they good enough for everyday use?
Would love to know if anybody else has any good ideas for adequate booting for this horse as he cost me a lot of money and I would hate for him to injure himself in any way just as he is beginning his career, plus he has four white legs which I don't think are as hardy as black legs?
Sorry to rant on but any info or recommendations would be great
