Very annoying/frustrating misconceptions of my dog....GRRRRR

It doesn't matter what breed or size (as proven by my post above). It is about the owner and the training. If an owner has an expectation that the dog doesn't jump up, pull on the lead, go near horses etc, then it isn't very hard to train the dog to share this. As for the owner not keeping the dog close, allowing it to foul the yard etc, there is no excuse for this. It is laziness, a communal yard area is not a dog toilet, and the owner isn't doing themselves any favours....

I am proud of both my dogs. Even my 8month spaniel doesn't jump up or pull. She stays with me and has been trained to use the garden (as has my mastiff x dobey) so there is never an issue of fouling anywhere else. I have a dog loo in the garden.

Owners are the problem every time!

Very true.
I like the dogs, it's the selfish owners I can't stand.

I'm amazed at how many people dislike dogs. We have a Golden Retriever, again perfectly well behaved, her mothers side are used as Guide Dogs for the blind. When I take her on the school run and walk along the pavement many people cringe away.

QR - I'm not a fan of boxers. I've been attacked by two (who were on the loose and attacked several people that day). They were eventually caught by the police and PTS. That's not really my reason for disliking them though (I'm not scared of them), they just really aren't my type of dog, at all. In fact, I don't like any bull breeds. :o

How silly, boxers are so lovely. Would you believe it, some of the locals are scared of our English Setter!! I don't think there is a gentler, more loving and generally soppy dog in the world! She doesn't even look vaguely scary but she is quite big for her breed so I think that's what puts people off. It's just so funny because she has never bitten anyone in her life and is the biggest wuss!

Here she is:

Terrifying I know. It's this one you need to watch out for:

Just to give the opposite view.
Why SHOULD people be forced to interact with your dog? You chose to have him, you love him, but other people may be afraid of, or dislike dogs and yet can't avoid him as you let him run loose at the yard.
Dog owners have to be the most selfish people alive. I hated the dogs on my last yard, not because they were agressive or I was frightened but because their owners let them run wild.
Why should I have a percentage of my hay ruined/sweep up dog***** in the hay barn; this should be the owner's responsibility?
Rant over.

WOW, what an insulting comment about dog owners!!!!!

Just a little reminder, the thread was regarding people's misconceptions of dogs.

I don't think so. Shils is entitled to her opinion.

I have two dogs, whom I absolutely love to pieces. The same goes for the GSD that I lost last year, who was a huge, but perfectly well mannered softie. I would certainly call myself a dog lover. HOWEVER, I have been at livery yards where other peoples' dogs have driven me mad! They run round out of control, mess everywhere, snap at the horses, cock their leg on your stuff. The same goes for how cross I feel when walking my little puppy this week, getting her used to being out and about, and idiots who can't control their animals think it's ok for their dogs to come and jump on her and scare her. It makes me furious.

People are perfectly entitled to shy away from other peoples' dogs if they don't want to interact with them, and the dogs' owners should keep them out of other peoples' way.

I love boxers. The only reason I don't have one is OH doesn't like them. I have labradors. Never had a problem with boxers. they are a lovely breed.
