Ok, so my mare can be volatile - she's either an angel or a stroppy horror, but she has got heaps of potential.

Anyway, she's been a star all week (apart from one buck on a hack) and going forward too which is lovely.

Had lesson today and she was a total b*tch. She'll be going lovely then all of a suden stop and start broncing

Today she did two enormous rears and almost came over on me but I managed to sit them, plus some big bucks

But a bit later she decided to put the two together and I tried to hold on but really had no chance.

So am very sore (sort of landed on coccyx in a tangle of her legs - ouch.)

The one good thing is that this is the first time she has done it properly infront of my instructor so we did manage to ride through it and got her going nicely again. The bad thing is that the rears and bucks are getting bigger. (because the samll ones aren't working! )

Just feeling a bit downhearted and sorry for myself - but she did work beautifully for some of the lesson so will try and concentrate on that.

Phew, that was a bit long, sorry. Mares, eh?

Poor you... Maybe she's just having a phase that you need to work thru? Darkest before dawn & all that?

At least she did it in front of your instructor so she could see what you're up against.

You need a hot bath & a glass of wine.

My mare is either my best friend or my worst enemy. We will take her out jumping one weekend and she will jump out of her skin for me but then the weekend after she could decide to suddenly have the biggest dickie fit at a fence (ok so it was a union jack) and bounce me out of the saddle. Needless to say say I spent some weekends thinking she is the greatest or others were I could give her away. I think its a mare thing but when you are working as a team it sort of blanks out the days you do fall out.

Must be a day for it as daughter has had a real b*gger of a day with the Sh*tty Small White Thing in my sig

Hope the achiness passes soon and that madam behaves for you next time.

my mares the same very un predictable jumps fab one day and stops at a piddly thing the other and I know 100% there nothing wrong with her, shes a pain but I love her and just alwways hope shes in the right mood when we compete, Always have to do a couple of clear round to get het in the mood.

Poor you try to think about the good things she does and focus on them, thats what im always told. Hard I know

Sorry to state the obvious but have you had her back/saddle/teeth checked. Whenever my mare has done something like this in the past, something has been wrong and she has never just been naughty for the sake of it. Was weather windy ? Season ? Regumate has good reviews. Recently clipped ?? blah blah. What does your instructor think ?

Aw, thanks guys - knew you'd make me smile

Just got back from the hot bath - setting up a big glass of red wine now!

It's true about mares though - i just need to find the key to her really. Fingers crossed all will turn out ok. x

Happy bird - good point but all checked and instructor thinks she is just being a sod! Am inclined to agree!

She's on a stroppy mare sup but not doing much good yet.

I use stroppy mare too and top spec calmer. The stroppy mare has made her seasons more bearable but it takes a tub and a half to kick in though. Glad u feel better!:)

Sounds to me like she is trying it on, like an extreme evasion, my big TB spent about 18 months having tantrums about anything and everything, and when he was doing them it was usually rearing, and whipping round and then he learned to reverse and OMG he can go for hours!! what he didnt bank on was me actually having more of a stubborn streak than him, so when he finished reversing after a 40 mins tantrum, I made him rein back for another 20!!!!!!!! My mum and her friend stood watching killing themselves laughing.
Stick with it hun she will be worth it!
