My mate has had her 16.1 happy hacker mare for over 5 years and has tried and failed-box and trailer- to travel her. She loads with no problem but as soon as the trailer moves she becomes frantic .
The mare actually collapsed the last time she tried

E has been offered a fantastic career opportunity down south which would involve about a 6 hour drive but she will only take it if she can get her mare there.

I said I'd ask here for any success stories !

Is it possible to keep a horse heavily sedated for this amount of time?

Thank You

Has she tried her without partitions? A lot of horses can't physically balance in the trailer when they're confined by the partition. Also, has she tried a herringbone lorry?

I don't think sedation is the answer as her balance would be much worse.

Hi
Yes she's tried her with and without a partition (IW 510 ) , facing forward and backwards. Lorrywise she's tried facing forward , sideways and backwards.

She's not any better in a stable either. Again E has attempted to build the time up very slowly but to no avail. It's like someone flicks a switch and she turns from a sweet, calm mare into a terrified, dangerous one. Very sad really.

Thanks
