Very bored, thinking of glue on nails

I had a full knee replacement 18/12 so can't do much and I'm very very bored. I used to have gels pre-Covid but didn't go back to them, they are really an extravegance and decided I had better uses for my money even though they lasted really well.
I keep seeing ads for glue on nails and I bet its not as easy as they make it look but I do have time to kill right now. Has anyone tried these and can recommend a make to try or avoid? Based on ease of application, removal and durability? I don't want long nails or want to do fancy art work.

I really struggle to get varnish with 2 coats plus top coat without smudging and it doesn't last around horses and my nails are long enough now and very hard.

Or other ideas to alleviate boredom? I read and do Sudoku, not keen on TV and I'm very non-arty

I've been using stick on nails that you put on then cook them with a lamp. I've just got some from HolyGels and if you buy 2 sets you get a free lamp. They stay on for ages and are really quick to do and if one does come off it's really easy to just stick on another one x

I've used Candy Claws. The sticky pads are good. I use the extra short ones and they look great. Last a few days so I put them on before going somewhere special. No damage on removal. I tried with the glue and they lasted 10 days but the glue left residue so back to sticky pads. I fancy trying the no lamp gel wraps but don't know anyone who uses them.

Are they easy to removed without damage?

I use gel wraps that cure under a uv light- I’ve found I can get a good 10 days to 2 weeks out of them and I clip/ teach for a living and look after 8 horses on a daily basis! Cheap eBay ones seem to last just as long as expensive ones.

I've been using the stick on ones from dragons den, "Glaze" just stick on and file to size. Last a good week even doing horses. Take off by soaking hand in warm water and using any kind of oil. If you take time removing them properly no damage, if you have zero patience and rip them off them it doesnt do nails any good lol.PXL_20251224_180825136.jpg

Thank you ladies, I realise this isn't our usual sort of conversation but wanted to ask an audience who weren't likely to be experts in application to see those views. I wanted to do without the UV light as I would have to buy them and don't expect the 2-3 wekk durability of gels!

I bought a diy gel kit a couple of years ago from Mylee. It cost about £90 at the time but, aside from adding a few extra colours, it's never needed updating. I got it on a deal and they always have some offer or another on. I was paying abut £30 a set at the time so I figured just doing my nails 3 times would cover the cost and I get my toes done for "free". They last really well - 2-3 weeks despite doing 3 horses twice a day and I just took my toe nails off after 6 weeks. I can't do any of the fancy nail art stuff but just painting in simple pretty colours has worked a treat.

Did you get the custom sized ones? I can't see how they can do that from photos! Very clever. I didnt watch Dragons Den which may have explained more!

I mean, In all honesty i dont care technically how! Just wonder if they are actully a vastly better fit than regular because I'd absolutely give them a try if so!

Not stick-on ones, but I use Sassy Saints dip powder. I can get three weeks wear out of them and get them off with no damage, though they do take time. Took one lot off yesterday, and I’ll be redoing them this afternoon. More cost effective than gels too. They also do gels that don’t need curing with UV, but I’ve not tried them myself.

What am I reading😅?
Never thought to read a thread like this on a horse forum! How to get rid of straw out of my bra or muck from getting ground into my hands, yes. Feeling sorry for the OP 😔 stuck indoors here, apart from reading can't think of much to suggest. Maybe signing up for a open university course might prove interesting 🤔

The Glaze ones are great for horsey people as they don't chip or get discoloured ... If you have short nails use nail clippers to clip end off before filing.

I tried some dip stuff ...looked great but totally ruined my nails when took it off...

I got the standard size ones, you almost get enough for 2 sets if you get the standard as they include lots diff sizes, main thing is to make sure the one you use isn't too big for the nail as it will lift if it is.

I looked at OU courses, they are quite pricey and at my age 65 probably not that useful.......

I’m obviously too rough. I can keep glue ons for just under 1 week, but need to wear gloves all the time for doing the horses. Then I get bored and start trying to get them off 🫣. I’ve done the dip ones before and they lasted around the same and then started chipping. As soon as they chip or start to lift then it’s game over. I have had the sticker type ones before too and they were quite good.

Another recommendation here for the Glaize ones - dead easy to get the made to measure ones and stick them on (no lamp/curing), and my current lot has done nearly two weeks with daily mucking out, etc (inspired me to wear gloves more to). Am going to try the MoYou London ones next though as Glaize's colour choices (no patterns) are a bit boring (nails? patterns? what's happening to me??).

Funnily enough, this is thanks to the recent how to get ground in dirt off your hands post 😅 I'm staring down the barrel of returning to work and having to turn up looking professional - so thanks to the person who sensibly pointed out that nail colours cover dirt under your nails!!

If anyone does have life hacks for getting hay out of your bra though or even your hair, I think I'll need them...

Ooh very smart!

Have you looked at openLearn / futureLearn content? To my mind , it doesn't need to be useful, just interesting. The openLearn / futureLearn content has come from ou or other universities courses but is free (or you pay if you want final certificate(s)).
Sorry, I know nothing about nails so you really wouldn't want my advice on those- but do know a bit about correspondence tuition 😊

Thanks, I didn't know about it and will look into it. My subject is Maths, not everyone's favourite;)
