I almost panicked today! I just got back from a week in Holland with some friends yesterday to discover that rather surprisingly, we are extremely low on hay. ie. less than a day's worth left!

I left last week with one and a half big round bales left (we have three horses and a miniature) but what with the cold weather, we've been feeding double and there was only a tiny bit left!

Hay had been ordered from the farmer down the road 3 days ago, but he's been lambing and therefore hadn't delivered it.

For this afternoon's feed, I had to give them half of their usual hay and then a huge hard feed each. None of them usually get hard feed so it was mostly chaff (thank God I had some) but cue very happy, but still quite hungry horses.

Luckily, the farmer has just delivered another bale so panic over! I don't know what I would have done tomorrow if he hadn't. Anyone else had trouble with feeding due to the weather?
Toblerones for all!

yup, i've run out of hay. i've been getting mini haylage bales that i can fit in the back of my yaris every day waiting for the hayman to deliver in the snow. luckily he came and delivered yesterday. phew!

however, bedding is another story... i've run out of pellets... and place i was going to get them from have run out... so i ended up buying (wait for it) cat litter. wood pellet cat litter. exactly the same as wood pellet bedding.... but 5 times the price. the lady in the shop nearly fell over when i said it was for horse bedding...

Im getting through twice as much haylage as usual because the snow has covered up all the grass. All the troughs are frozen so having to wheelbarrow water twice a day to 4 seperate fields to do water in buckets. Hard feed is the same though!
