I read through this forum most days to read comments and advise from like minded and often very knowledgable people in the equestrian community.

Unfortunatly it seems to be turning into a bitchy and spiteful place with people posting nasty comments on a daily basis. Now, whilst the majority of people on here are nice and offer valued help and advise, It is disappointing to see what appear to be adults behaving like spiteful children.

I read a lightheated thread about a lady who had a crossbred dog and got some nasty comment because of the breed. For goodness sake.

I wonder how many members are to scared to post because of the comments they may recieve. Lets get this forum back to the nice place it used to be.

I do think twice before posting. Even then it often turns into page after page of ranting, raving and sarcasm. I do sometimes get very nervous about what replies I'll get. I've known my fair share of drama llamas, but it seems to be on almost every thread here :(
I think what is utterly weird, is that on some threads, they say how wonderful you're doing and on other threads, rip you to shreads!

Though, I guess it's worth putting up with some abuse, I've had some good advise.
However, it does occour to me how odd it is taking such advise from complete strangers!!

Nervous about what comments I'll get from this post...:(

I reckon it happens most winters, less being outside and enjoying nice evening hacks! so the forum runs in a bit of a seasonal cycle!

That is so sad, I hate it when people are nasty. Why bother to post if you have nothing helpful to say? I do admit to playing a bit but hope no one ever thinks I am nasty. And to be fair I moaned last night about a new member getting her thread taken over be silly peeps, not nasty just silly. And a new person more or less told me to but out! So what else can you do?

Oh FGS shut up, why do you bother posting such ridiculous dribble!!!

;) I know what you mean though... although I would be bored without the drama!

I haven't seen the particular thread that you're referring to, but I know quite a few of the people on the Dogs forum do a lot of work rescuing and rehoming dogs.
I've never found them to give nasty comments based on a breed, but people posting about puppies with dubious breeding being born will get their backs up (I can understand where they're coming from as they tend to deal with the fall out when the puppies are unsuitable/have health problems and are then turned into the rescues).
The majority of them have very strong opinions on dogs being neutered to stop 'accidental' breeding and again I can see where they're coming from.
There are people on all the forums who will be very blunt with their comments and there are some threads where a bit of tact is needed.
I would turn to the dogs forum for help with a problem, but certainly would post on there about my dog getting caught and now having puppies as that would bring down a tonne of bricks on my head.
Yes there are threads on here that make me cringe and also posts that make me cry (I've stopped reading them in at work), there are threads guaranteed to provoke a response (not wearing hats being one of them), but on the whole I think this forum is quite a good way to gauge opinions.
I also think one of the bigger issues for some people coming in all guns blazing is either not fully reading the thread (and all following posts) and/or the poster not putting up all the information to make an informed opinion (again this can result in people being rather harsh with their opinions). If I reply to a thread I always try and put it in a way I would be happy with saying to someones face, but there are people who are happy to hide behind the computer and username.

murphysgirl come join us reprobates on 'a quick question' thread, you won't get much advice (unless we rein ourselves in... a lot!) but we are all nice and friendly, it a little bit too friendly :D But I get what you mean, you have to pick your way through your threads carefully, but then there are always those types of people in the horsey world:)

Couldn't agree more.

@ Annielusian,

Love the phrase 'drama llamas'. Favourite post of the day.

Also, to echo what QB said, if you would like an example of a fun and friendly thread, please check out the quick question one.. it shows us at our best!

OP, I am a returning user and I actually though "OMG, its SO much nicer than it used to be!!" There was a lot of bitchiness a tear or so ago, but that seems to have died down.

Thing is that in the Horsey world its like that in real life to a degree (look at the livery yard stories thread) And really, any hobby that is female orientated - all those hormones!

I personally haven't had too much trouble but after seeing some of the things that are said I rarely ask any questions now.
I do generally find this a helpful and friendly forum.

Have you never met the drama llama?

OP - In my time on HHO I have never had a nasty or spiteful comment to any of my posts, in fact the complete opposite :) I think if you consider what you are writing and how you are writing it, and appreciate that posters on here have very varying knowledge and experience then it's fine. Posting a question and then completely refusing to even consider anyone else's point of view will invariably get people's backs up, and I think a lot of the 'nasty' comments are just sheer frustration!

There are of course a few posters who take great delight in making negative and personal comments; unless these are reported then nothing will be done.

I spent ages procrastinating over whether I should join this forum or not, I've heard some terrible stories or nasty comments and tears.

Since being here I have seen some comments that could quite easily be taken the wrong way and caused a few tears. However, I havent had any directed my way, YET

I would say that 90% of the forum does seem like a friendly bunch, but like absolutely everything in there will be the ones who have no tact and other who cant take advice or criticism. I think that most forums have post which end up in with nasty things said, even Yourhorse forum which is renowned for being one of the nicest horse forums on the net :)

I can not understand why anyone would get up set about the b****ing as it says far more about the people who are doing it. Having just found you-tube I have found out that I live a rosy, non swearing,( a part from the odd b****r and s**t) alternate universe where people are nice and resonable. I now know how wars are started and I thank the internet for the education.

The thread you're referring to OP, there was one poster who works in rescue who came in all guns blazing and could have been a hell of a lot more tactful, yes, the rest of the posters including myself commented on what a lovely boy he looked and some of us, again including myself, went a little way to explaining why some people have such strong views on the subject, it was an unfortunate start to the thread but not every post in dogs will result in endless 'awww cute!' answers.
I am sure a lot of people think my dogs are ugly cripples :p
If you stick around in the dogs forum you'll find that while the posters may be blunt, they will also go out of their way to help, there have been some massive ding dongs in there but if your dog is sick or you need training advice or shopping help :p, that all goes out the window and people will still offer help.
That to me is more important than constant hearts and flowers.

totally agree. i do think twice about posting, especially now, i just dont want my head chewed off, everyone has a right to an opinion but there is no need to be rude or nasty :(

I actually thought it was a much nicer place lately. Oh well..

Ditto, when i first came on this forum at the beginning of the year i couldnt believe how rude people were ( when hiding behind their comp) but just lately there hasnt been ant bitchiness ( i havent seen any anyway) - so, i think we may just be getting there.....:)

Whilst I really don't want to turn this thread into an argument, i'm pretty sure i'm the new person you're referring to, and in no way did I try or mean to try and tell you to but out!!! I just said that I think their very funny, I didn't say you were wrong or that you weren't entitled to your opinion. But I am new and therefore maybe I am wrong to give my own genuinely nice opinion. :o Once again, I am very sorry if you were offended, it most certainly wasn't an attempt to get you to 'but out' intended or otherwise. :(
