Just check entries for Carlton BE (bedfordshire). Given that the ballot date is this saturday I was surprised how low the number of entries are.
This is a new venue to the BE calendar and with all the moans and gripes about lack of runs etc I think it should be receiving a little more support.

Off to put my entry in!!!!!

I also hope they manage to fill it.

Not ready for intro yet with new horse, but it will be on the list for next year, so I need them to have a sucessful year so they can run again!

It would be a shame if it is not supported

That's a shame to hear. Carlton is a great venue and would definitely be on my list if I was half competant at dressage. Or showjumping!

Makes me so cross TF for just the same reason.
I bet the other 3 events running that weekend end up balloting, whilst Charlton will be cancelled altogether.
The event sounds lovely, and I was half tempted to enter the Ointro on Winston just for some fun... oh to have the money

Was looking at entering this, but is over 2 hrs away for me unfortunately which I just cant justify with the price of diesel

well, i always enter at the last possible minute... maybe other people do too? if they were running a N class i'd be going.
i agree though, after all the gripes and balloting it will be awful if this one doesn't get enough support to run.

We have already entered.....is it possible it will be cancelled if there are too few entries?

I would imagine (hope) they would drop back to only running one day rather than cancel completely

ah... ok that would make sense.... it would be so disappointing for all concerned if it got cancelled all together. Fingers xd then!

2 of us entered already from my yard. Its a lovely venue and I was disappointed too, to see the lack of entries.
Its amazing isn't it, after all the moaning and groaning about balloting etc. However, I do find I am spoilt for choice at this time of year when compared to a month or so ago.

Oddly, Little Mattingley hasn't balloted, which I would have thought it would have done, and then Carlton, with a ballot date a week later, could have swept up some of the overspill. Looks like they have enough entries to consolidate to one day if needs be though.

Looks like Im going, as Molineux is entering the OPN.

Well thats just typical. I've had to enter the sat Intro as diva wife at keysoe (stressage) on sunday. OPN just had to be sunday didn't it.

LM always balloted.
Are they not running over 3 days this time??
I love LM one of my favourite events.

LM ran over 3 days last year too.

I withdrew from LM as Dougly isnt ready really, maybe its the credit crunch

I know! They still have space for PN doing friday dressage for sat SJ and XC and training class entries. No idea if they are running oevr 3 days or not, but I am surprsed they did not ballot. I am guessing Carlton were hoping to pick up some of LM overspill?

BE is wierd this year - Aldon and Belmont never ballot and did this year, LM always ballots and hasn't.....bizarre forces at work.....

I have entered and so has my sister, mum and I decided to give it a chance as a new event, it seemed to have 2 good sponsors involved and the course pics look lovely, but I too, was very concerned about the lack of entries, I hope they don't cancel, or will at least run one day.

Carlton is a lovely venue. The people who own it do so much for their local pony clubs too.

The trouble is at this time of year anyone who is also at PC is doing PC areas etc, eg we are not entered in any BE after Buckminster for a while due to hard ground and PC committments.

I suspect people wait until last minute at this time of year just to see how the ground is.

I was surprised as well at LM - they have 280 horses entered in the Intro!!!!! Is it possible to get through that many in a day?????

Easily. MKEC run well in excess of that in one day

I was going to say the same thing... It's in the local PC Areas week and I would imagine is at a similar time to these competitions in other Areas. I really hope it gets enough support as I would otherwise have entered and will hope to to go there in the future

BE are on to it, just received this email from them

A reminder to you all that we have added an exciting new fixture to the BE calendar at with stunning Intro and Pre-novice courses designed by Philip Herbert.

Carlton Cross Country is an established course set in a beautiful area of rolling countryside near Bedford that includes woodland, hedges, permanent pasture and inviting gallops.

The course is designed and built wherever possible with permanent fences that take full advantage of the natural features. Outstanding fences include a stunning woven willow basket where the handle forms a magnificent arch for the competitors to jump through and an all oak bench carved from local wood. The water complex is an old dew pond bounded with ancient osiers. The courses are inviting and fair with alternatives at the more challenging fences.

From a vantage point at the top of the Meadow Hill, a competitor's progress can be followed nearly all of the courses which are perfect for first timers and seasoned partnerships alike. Excellent ground conditions will be assured through the use of an agrivator if necessary.

Click here for further details about the event.

Entries can be made at www.bdwp.co.uk or via www.hillhousecrosscountry.com

Having a little giggle to myself that those of you down south are able to consider 'over 2 hours away' as a long way to travel to a BE event. i live in SW scotland & my closest event is 2 hours away!!!!

There are quite a few July events that i was suprised on the low entries, Brightling too. I wonder if it's the ground?

I nearly used my super ballot at LM as i was sure it would ballot, decided against it and am really glad i didn't waste it!!
