I'm ever so slightly excited :D - going to arrange this afternoon to buy a horse for myself.

I've wanted one of my own ever since I can remember so it's a real lifelong ambition thing. Having got a pony for my girls a short while ago, I realised how much I'd missed horses. Have found a lovely sensible, willing, mare who's perfect for me. So here goes! Vetting next week and then I shall finally, after more years than I care to own up to, have one of my own.

Now the big question: I haven't actually told my husband... a) do you think he really needs to know and b) how long should I wait before telling him ;)

I jokingly said that to my 8 yr old, who said as long as we only bring one saddle home at a time to clean, he probably won't notice! TBH she's probably right!

Lovely news but think i would tell oh asap :D as long as it doesnt interfere with his tea time he ll be fine lol

Haha that's brilliant
I wouldn't be without my horse, don't actually know how i'd fill my time but i guess i would get more lie ins!!!

I had a friend who had 3 horses but her other half thought she had just the one and was looking after another for someone who had moved away and my friend was to sell him for her! The third she pretended was mine when he came to the yard...... i wish

Horses are such great friends and give so much enjoyment

Oooooh, congratulations!!!! Good luck with the vetting! Love your daughter's thoughts on telling the OH!!!

You know him best and how he is likely to react so good luck with that!! I would say that yes, he does need to know, but not necessarily agree to it all hey! If I was in this situation I'd probably tell my hubbie once the horse was bought and in place, then take him down to meet it!! LOL, I might have to put up with a few moans but it would be worth it in the end!!

How exciting! I think you should wear something pretty and make his favorite dinner and break it to him in the middle of another conversation...
"have you seen the Jones' new car- oh i've bought another horse- I don't think white will be a a very sensible colour in October..."

Teehee love it!

Thanks all. I will tell him - when I've done the deal.

I don't think he will mind.

It won't interfere with his teatime as the kids and I are always up the stables with the children's pony anyway so he's used to coming home to an empty house, and luckily he's fairly self sufficient and certainly a better cook than me... Anyway it gives him more excuse to go and do his hobbies. Hey that's a good way to frame it - I can say I'm giving him more time and space to tinker with his hobby car. Will that work do you think?

cool!! how exciting. Could you perhaps persuade him to buy it for you for xmas?!?! that is what I did with hubby, told him I found a horse that I wanted, I dont have towing licence so couldnt get away with not telling him but once he met hairy beast, he loved him too so bought him for me for xmas!

Failing that, visit Ann Summers first and buy him something and then go about convincing him what a good idea it is - a way to a man's heart and all that!!!! good luck with your new girl and the OH xxx

Aha if I asked him to buy it for me for Christmas he'd know how much it cost!

Maybe I'll go with your second suggestion

Old nag you disappoint me with your innocence!! Clearly after the vetting you get friendly with the seller and pay her an amount leaving what you think darling OH would think was a bargain for him to pay as your Xmas present. You tell him she needs to get rid quick for whatever reason and it's a bargain, he is worth x y z but seller clearly doesnt realise potential etc etc. If you do thIs whilst wearing Ann summers product after yummy dinner, it's a definite ;) xx

Hahaha love it, but knowing what he normally spends on my Christmas presents, ... is he really going to believe that you can get a horse for £30? He might not know anything at all about horses but I'm sure he would smell a rat. He knows how much I paid for the kids' pony. Darn it I shoudl have told him that was £25 then this might work!

I thinkit will have to be plan B.... I might have to go shopping at a certain lingerie outlet... :D

:D:D Love it, what a funny thread!

Congratulations first of all and I was in a very similar situation.

We move houses and I've found 2 horses to share for me after a 10 year break. Caught the bug and after 2 months bought my kids a pony. AND then I found my Buddy :D. Didn't know how to speak to hubby about it and thought he would kill me if I tell him I want to buy him.

But told him that I have seen this horse which is a total bargain as owner has a financial crisis and he joked that I would probably get it for even less. DEAL :D
Now it was his idea to get the horse :D
