...to my fed up post about Alf's feet.
The horse that cant be shod behind...has been shod this morning. New farrier was fantastic with him - very patient and quiet, let go of his leg whenever the shivers kicked in, let him shake it out, then picked up where he left off, and shod him really low to the ground, which Alf needs.
Alf was relaxed throughout, and although farrier wasn't entirely happy with his nail placement, due to lack of foot to nail into, I think he's done a fab job, considering! 116337140_301466864535864_1233613103631175495_n.jpg

It was a bit emotional walking him out of the stable and back to the field - he's been so uncomfortable walking on the loose stony farm yard surface recently - he started off very tentative, then realised he had wheels on, and steamed off across the yard with me scuttling beside him. Also turning much better going through gates.
Id love to have successfully got him barefoot behind, but at his age, I care more about him being happy and comfy

Who are you, and what have you done with YCBM?

What, the ycbm who wrote a thread many years ago now saying that barefoot isn't always the right idea? Still here. Still saying the same thing.

You had a sore horse who couldn't wear boots, what else were you supposed to do?

I was teasing, gently! I really appreciate your kind comments, particularly as I know you are very committed to barefoot

I suspect you might get more pissage hacks again now though. :D

Ester, who has definitely never used a stoney lane surface to stop the pratting about :p.

I have dug out my neck strap, just in case! It's not the pissage so much as the 180's. He's been a bit slower at them recently, as his hind feet were sore!

My old boy is struggling with the ground, it doesn't help that when he feels well, he tare arses around and makes himself sore, he's barefoot, but last year he was still shod and was the same so re shoeing him wouldn't make a difference. I'm really pleased for you that it has worked for Alf, he's so lovely

Ahhhh! I need to take Robins back shoes off to slow the spins. Excellent plan ?
