Can anyone post pics of their yearlings - particularly those who still look like large foal,s like my colt does, to make me feel a little better! Am taking him out showing this year and hope he'll start looking a bit better soon. Will get some photos today and post them

Here are two of mine. Pic taken in March. The chestnut in front is a July foal and the one behind is a late June foal. Hope this helps.

I see what you mean. He's probably just a late developer so I wouldn't worry too much. Get him out and about anyway - it'll do him some good and be fun for you.

He's very sweet by the way! How big do you expect him to get?

some breeds take longer to mature than others any judge worth their salt will take that into account. A judge will also usually ask what month a youngster was born.

When you think about it July is quite late for a foal so he's only really 8 months... I'm sure he'll be looking super by showtime! :D

Zoon I really wouldnt worry - I would kill to get a fabulous looking youngster like yours! x

Thank you :) I am not overly worried as I know he'll get there in the end and would rather a slow developer than one that is growing too quickly. He will hopefully make 16hh - he's standing at 13.2-14hh now at a guess and is 1 on the 12th May. Although I am worried I have over estimated as haven't actually measured him and am using my 12.2 pony as a guide to his height!

I just hope the judges won't hold it against him - especially at the futurity. I am wondering whether to hold off taking him this year and maybe take him as a 2 year old???

Buy one - there is a lovely spotty boy (gelding) for sale - all American (tested negative for PSSM) take a look at Mels Appaloosas in South Wales (area). He must be rising two now. By Wa Ha Dar (American imported stallion). I would have liked this one myself as my two year old only has about 6 spots (rest is white) but you can't have everything you want in life!

Zoon - don't know the breeding of your baby but our apps are quite slow to mature. My two year old still looks quite 'foalie' if you know what I mean. You certainly wouldn't even think about 'starting' him under saddle like some do with western breeds!

My spotty girl is almost 13 months and she looks like two different horses stuck together. Her front end and head and neck are very foal like she stands 13hh at the wither. However, her body and back end are bigger she stands 14 hh at the bum she is a real ugly duckling just now. I hope it is just a phase!!!!! Will try and get some new pics later.
