Very interesting article on EWW re. Boots...

Interesting article, but pointless without stating which boots are in their opinion good/bad and why following their studies. Obviously for legal reasons they arent able to but it kind of leaves us all hanging with no answer to the question! I have no idea if my eskadron XC boots are good or bad, but they have saved both mine from nasty cuts and they dont absorb water.

Its all a mystery really!

Hmm... i have the clarendon tendon boots for Blue, though one hook is broken now (they are about 6yrs old!

) so will need to think about replacing them soon.

He wears them for SJing and XC (!) and sponsored ride type things.

Have PE schooling sport boots for everyday schooling.

to be honest i used to always prefer good leather ones but they are hard to get now without the hateful linings because leather breathes and moulds. probably have to go to a polo supplier to ge the good sort know which would be way expensive.
Those aside i like the prolites even though they are neoprene because they are light, wear well and dont slip and the strike pad seems very resilient and i also like the woof wear ones same reason.
Alot of the others including most with the air pockets are very hard and do not fit well, though they dont slip they can chafe.
I think that the heating thing is less of an issue since long format went as the horses barely have the boots on half an hour now and you whip them off and cool the legs down, pretty quick or at least i do.
and I have to say i still like porter boots, you can cut them to the right size, they are light, dont absorb water and dont shatter under high impact and if ou put them on with vet wrap they are fairly idiot proof as it is almost impossible to put then on too tight.
as for tubi grip. the reason i am so anti is that i had to wear it for a very long time when i smashed my legs up unlike many of the people who use it so i know it should be applied double and if you do that it is fine but obviously if you are concerned with heat it is another layer. if you use it single, like a great many eventers it does not work the same way, most importantly it does not keep an even tension. I would suggest that anyone who doesnt believe this goes and wears a bit for a few hour and see the difference. I have noticed though that tubi grip is slightly going out of eventing fashion.
there you go KatB, and i am sure there will be loads replies disagreeing but this s what i have found and in all the horses i have ever ridden or looked after i havent had many serious leg problems which of course may just be twenty years of good luck!!

PS I was working at a place that ested woof boots when they first came out, hence why i am a fan cos they havent let me down since.

In all the boot threads I've come across on here, no one has mentioned using Sabre Leather Event Boots, is there any particular reason for it? Seem to be decent boots and very protective IMHO

Hmm, thats really interesting Lucretia, I'm not a fan of the Woof wear ones as they tend to slip but agree wholeheartedly re. the prolite boots. Thanks!

the new woof wear xc havent slipped for me since they slightly modified the design. and one of their sponsored riders made the same comment and i sweetly suggested he reove the tubi grip from beneath them as i am sure woof wear did not test them like that....... he is still using the boots and the tubi grip has indeed gone!

Great to hear a positive comment on the Woof Wear Ultras, I wear these all round (sans tubigrip!

) and have never had a problem with them slipping, I think they're fab!

I bought my fronts ages ago and the hinds in the last year, the hinds have elasticated straps whereas my fronts dont, is this the update you mentioned? Both pairs seem fine anyway and they do them in a good rnage of sizes, so you should fine some to fit.

I had Peter in WW boots and they rubbed him on every single leg...

Now use the PE Air Cooled and find them okay - flexible, light weight, and have never rubbed.

I also will second Lucretias thing RE Tubi grip - a good idea, but you have to use it double layer for it to do it's job, and then you're back to the overheating issue.... I spent some time wearing tubigrip!
