I want to try them on my horse as i found this great article called herbs for the nervous horse and he is most def a hops horse/Valerian horse...obv valerian you can get anywhere but hops is the one i really want:

The HOPS horse processes his anxiety through his head. He is easily distracted mentally, and it's is very difficult for him to concentrate as he's constantly very scattered and unfocused. These horses are the 'dizzy-lizzies' of the horse world. He is usually very 'busy' in the head, although not necessarily physically 'hot' to handle and ride. He will be difficult to train in the sense that he will not retain things well. With the Hops horse, you will find yourself going over the same issues again and again, and his concentration span often seems to be less than 30 seconds.

Giving him the herb Hops allows him to calm down mentally, and to become focused. In this balanced state, the Hops horse will be able to concentrate on the job at hand, and given the right direction he can shine in his chosen field.

This is him to the tee, he pays more attention to my instructor than me  does anyone know where to get them, will human hops tablets do?

this is this link very interesting for nervous horses:

Sorry no info or experience of these but if you try them please make sure to update us, my mare seems the hop type too, she is far too clever, won't switch her brain off but can't focus on just one thing!

Have you tried Holland & Barrett? They have most things and I am pretty sure A. Vogel do a hops extract tincture.

There is another type, Bryonia Alba which is wild hops and also for similar things.

I have used hops with success. When my mares were competing they would have a sprinkle of hops every day. I got mine off ebay, but any brewing site will sell them.

Definitely noticed a difference when I used them, I have known people give a cup of hops to a youngster before their shoes or clip. You can either add them dry to the feed or brew up a tea with them.

OOh, my ears have pricked up. Has anybody tried hops on a gelding?

Also, I have tried Valerian and saw no improvement at all so is it likely hops won't make much difference? In fact I've tried most things :)

He has had an injection of the horse equivalant to ritalin, that worked but again I saw little change when he was faced with something that would normally get his adrenalin pumping

Please let us know how you get on
