My little border collie (21 months old) has become very itchy to the point where i need to hoover up fur every day. She is sort of mid coat length, not one of the really shaggy ones.

At first i thought it must be the warmer weather and thicker coat but I took her the vet today to get her checked and although she had no fleas they said she may be allergic to flea bites (I have 2 cats as well) but she has stronghold spot on regularly.

She is fed Burns lamb and rice as she can suffer with diarrhoea and these is the food she tolerates best.
For a number of reasons i cannot do raw meat but wondered if anyone else has had an itchy dog, or a problem with Burns?
The vet has given her piriton and told me to spray flea spray thoughout the house...

thanks :)

Hi, I have a border collie and he used to be soo soo itchy and the vet said that he was allergic to flea bites and he used to get an injection when he was particularly bad...

I dont know about Burns dog food but my collie used to be fed Bakers complete until I read about how rubbish it was on here plus I also had two cats (which I deflead regulary in view of vet comments re flea bites)

The cats decided to leave home at the sameish time of changing his food and a couple of weeks later I realised he had COMPLETELY stopped itching - so either he was allergic to the cats or his food - his coat is much improved and I dont have to get the hoover out every day.

Get some Neem oil, mix 5 ml Neem with 3 ml of shampoo and make to 1 litre with warm water and wash the dog all over with that.
Neem alleviates itching and will repel fleas and ticks.
It does smell but that wears off after an hour!

Is she licking obsessively and making her fur patchy??

Teal is doing this atm but his ears are fine (he has trouble with them), anal glands fine. Hes made the base of his tail bald as well!!!

I am suffering really badly from itchy dry skin atm as well. So dunno if its all related. I washed him in hibiscrub twice now and giving him prititon when I see him getting itchy. We walk in a lot of woodland and open fields so not sure if somethings been sprayed, tree sap??????

Hi, thanks for replies.
No not licking or anything, just scratching....

I will try the neem, It cant smell any worse than fox poo, her favourite delicacy
