Hi,

For some reason this summer quite a few of the horses here are very itchy. They are in fly rugs and not all the horses in each paddock are itchy.
We've been here 10yrs and not had this before. One horse I've had for over 15yrs and has never been like this before.

There's been no change in feed etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for anything to relieve the itching?

^^^Agree. A thorough bathing and rinsing of coat, mane and tail in the first instance. I favour Dermoline shampoo for this.

Mine have been a bit itchy this year, so I've clipped two out with coarse blades and and am washing manes and tails, which has really helped.
I use dermoline medicated shampoo all summer and wash mane and tail regularly I use gold label wonder gel along mane line and tail, I also feed niacinamide its meant to stop itching its relatively cheap and you just tip it water and add to the feed.

My share is new to me but I've known him for many years because he was a friends before this. He is 15 & has never had problems before but this year he has a very itchy face and neck.

I think the sudden warmth, combined with bits if winter coat still hanging around and grease in the coat is what’s causing it with mine. I haven’t yet seen any midges, so they are late this year, or it’s just been to dry.

I wash my itchy horse’s mane with mild oatmeal shampoo every two weeks during the summer which seems to keep the itchiness at bay for a while at least
