Any ideas what it could be ? . No heat , swelling from the fetlock up to the hock. she is walking either on 3 legs or putting a bit of weight on the toe. It is not sore to touch at all anywhere on the leg. I am in france and vet wont come out till tomorrow morning. I am thinking tendon but surly it would be sore to touch ??

Sounds like lymphagitis to me, but I would be wanting the vet out straight away. Does the swelling 'pit' when you press it?

Hi thanks for the reply. i thought lymphagitis too at first but there is no pitting it is really quite a hard swelling more so at the front of the cannon bone. there are no scratchs or scabs on her legs, would lymphagitis not start from a scratch ? and the pastern is normal it is literally just the cannon area, with lymphagitis would her pastern and hock not swell too ?

Can she fully weight bear with her heel down when standing? If only toe weight bearing then sounds like tendon to me. The sooner the vet sees her the better. I hope its nothing too serious. Best of luck.

Hi, no she will not put any weight on the heal at all its either tip of toe or hop , the vet is going to come out first call tomorrow but i think the same that it is tendon and that will be a nightmare as she is a semi feral mule who has never been away from the others or stabled :(

I'd ask him to check suspensories too but the swelling would probably be mostly either side of the cannon bone. But SL could explain the toe walking.

Can you post any pics?

Hi. She is 5 yr old and about 13h I know she has been hurtling round the field with the others befor this so I guess she could have slipped or got a kick. I am on the I phone so not sure how to post pics. Don't get me wrong there is swelling to the side and back of the leg too but I would say it's about 2 inchs thicker at the front of the leg than it should be where as the rest of the area is just loss of definition if you know what I mean but I will try get the pics on

Can you get to clip the leg? The vet will need to see if there is an injury from a kick.
A friends pony once got an infection in the tendon sheath, they thought from a puncture wound.
I think you need to see the skin on the whole lower leg.

Ok tomorrow befor the vet comes I will try clip the leg too. Wish me luck lol. And I will come on here tomorrow and give an update. Thanks again
