Hi everybody

Does anybody know if there are any very lightweight ultra breathable mesh fly rugs like this one available in the UK (this one seems only to be made for the US market)?

http://www.weatherbeeta.com/weatherbeeta-bugbeeta

I've got a 3 year old who is very bothered by the flys and his Shires sweet itch is keeping them off, but it's obviously not keeping him cool enough as he's getting heat lumps :-( I've had a good search around but haven't been able to find anything similar yet.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I like the Rambo/Amigo range

I've got an Amigo Mio combo and a Bugrug with removable neck

Edgemere Ltd have very good selection, very fast delivery and cheapest I've seen them

Cant you just wipe over his body with neem oil its fantastic, keeps all flying things away, cheaper than a fly rug

Personally imo a fly rug works out cheaper in the long run as you're not buying fly repelents all the time, I've not tried neem oil though

It could be that this particular style was unpopular in the UK - I've got one, and it looked lovely and didn't look as though it would let water through, but the first night my mare lay down in it it got all scrundled up and I never could get it to lie flat again. I even tried ironing it...

Of course, I might be talking complete rubbish, and they've sorted out the creasing problem, or it might be a completely different textile... :D

Thanks everybody for all your helpful replies, most appreciated :-)

Diamonddogs - yep there must be a reason why they don't market this one in the UK, I've sent them a message so I'll find out if they reply!

MiJodsR2BlinkinTite - thanks very much for that I'll have a look there.

STRIKER - thanks very much, I'll have a try of that as he's going to have to go naked except for fly mask anyway until I can find a better solution for him. I have 5 horses and I was consequently spending an absolute fortune on fly spray hence purchasing the fly rugs for them :-o!! but I'll have a look at Neem oil I know it's meant to be very good.

Another recommendation for the premier equine "lite" fly rugs, they are extremely lightweight and I haven't found them to rub. I've been using them for a couple of years now, have found the standard fly rug (cross over surcingles, not the belly-cover design) to stay put all day every day, and they really do keep horses cool even on the hottest of days. They fit really nicely too and have nice long necks which don't slip down during the day. I would go for the all over mesh though, rather than the "stay-dry", because they can heat up the back in warm weather.
