Very low calorie but tasty (horse) food?

As you probably know, Wig is on box rest. He's managing quite well (other than flooding the whole barn by turning the tap on in his stable and pulling his hay bar off the wall ) and is his usual chilled self. He has a little pen in the field he goes out to on nice dry days (can't risk him slipping in wet conditions) so he gets a change of scenery and sees his friends for a few hours.

The only issue is that he's either got wise to the Danilon in his feed or he's gone off the Fast Fibre. I think it's the latter as he's spent the last two days throwing it at the wall in a way Jackson Pollock would be proud of, even without the Danilon in it and it's not like him to turn his nose up at anything so the Danilon hasn't stopped him until the last two days. Either way, he needs something to get the Danilon down him and, just as a means of killing a bit of time, I'd like him to be able to have something he can have a fair amount of (in a treat ball) without worrying that he's eating too much. He's on the plump side but not awful (you can feel but not see his ribs) and has lost a bit of weight since being in so I'm not too concerned about over feeding, I just don't want to go mad!

They all go mad for thunderbrook hay cobs (which are just hay) or the Bailey's fibre nuggets (which aren't as wholesome as people think), you can soak them to a dry mash for the meds.

I found ground ginger worked well, half to one teaspoon.

For the treat ball the above will work if it's a big hole, dried whole rosehips or grass nuts for a smaller hole?

Graze on grass nuts. I put them in Orbis ball, loves them

For mine agrobs hay cobs, emerald green meadow magic also worked and is low energy for a more ‘grass’ but as did the aspero and the light chaff from agrobs but he needed a mash

Saracen Releve cubes or as above Baileys nuggets. I mix a fair few supplements in a large mug full and they’ll eat it when they won’t if mixed with anything else.

Mollichaff with Apple. Even my daughter's haughty 'I don't need to eat' horse likes it. And at around £8 a bag it's not too distressing if it gets left.

Now that I've just spent £30 on a treat ball and £20 on a bag of Bailey's nuggets, the git has started eating his Fast Fibre again . I wouldn't mind but you can't put Fast Fibre in a treat ball.

For disguising meds, Saracen Releve every time. It's like horse crack, but nowhere near as bad a feed as you'd expect, despite the smell and stickiness. I used to feed it to my EMS pony and have also fed it to my mare to hide bute.

It does, but you are not feeding the entire bagful. A double handful is neither here nor there.

Pure Fibre Balance, its fabulous stuff and very tasty. Its a complete feed so no need for chaff or anything else. Just add a bit of water. Its low in energy etc
