Very low flying helicopters in sleepy Suffolk

Couldn't believe my eyes this morning - could hear a helicopter coming and then two appeared just above the tree line flying in convoy and went really low over the horses field. Luckily the horses are used to helicopters/small planes/hand gliders as we live near a private flying club. But these two helicopters were so incredibly low, that even they jumped a bit. The helicopters then looped round and came back over the horses again, and then flew off over the tree line. Couldn't see any markings on them - they were very dark blue/dark grey and had yellow tops. Horses settled down and then one more came over even lower directly over our house and banked to fly straight over the horses' field, looped round and then came back over and went. Well that was enough for the horses and they were most unhappy:(

I now have one lame horse. Just found out it was the POLICE and they are going to phone me back shortly

Yup, I thought about halfway through reading your post that it was police! Most forces have an area on their website now explaining what their helicopters are doing, when, and where - obviously they will ring you, but might be worth looking at that?

I live on Norfolk/Suffolk border and for the past week day or night the helicopters have been flying incredibly low and like you it's ONLY just above tree line. Infact, as I type 2 have just flown over.

Police have just phoned back and it wasn't them as they only have one helicopter and it was definitely not in this area today. They said these helicopters were military ones on training exercises.

Also in sleepy Suffolk and for the last two nights we have had a series of low flying helicopters over us. Don't know what is going on but thankfully horses are away at livery at the mo. As I've been drifting back to sleep I've been thinking I should investigate the next day but have forgotten to so far. Will keep an eye out to see if anyone knows what is going on.

We've seen 2 heli's flying just above trees on 2 or 3 occasions in the last week - usually over Holbeach Drove area - came over our field the other day but ours didn't bother.

could they be line checkers?

Another one has just come over (luckily horses are in their stables) - they are definitely military helicopters (RAF insignia is visible).

Have been hearing these fly round all bloomin' day (although haven't seen any so far)....have been hearing them for the past few days tbh!

I'm only round the corner from you so I'll keep a look out!

Dunno if there is anything we can do tho!

Which horse is lame btw?

We get low-flying military aircraft around here quite often.

It REALLY pees me off - they fly just above the tree-line, and it absolutely terrifies my horse. The ground seems to shake because they are so low, and I do not believe they cannot see horses - especially when the rider is dressed in hi-viz gear. I know that on several occasions they must have seen me and could have avoided me.

There are a lot of open spaces in this country - if they need to practice flying at such low levels, why can't they go to Salisbury Plain or one of the National Parks, or better still - do it over the sea?

Haven't seen any out this way today, which makes a change. But I'm sure we'll be inundated with them at the weekend, when all the rich gits fly in for the Guineas meeting

Two of the adjoining studs to us have helicopters, and get very low when coming in to land. But at least they are horse friendly people

We get this constantly where we are. You can even see the pilots they are that low. All the horses just dont care anymore, even when we had one land in a field very near the school when Gen was working with Mike he only glanced up.

Its a pain in the bum for us as it makes all the windows rattle in the house (old cottage) and if at night wakes me up.

We get them flying over all the time, all different ones and we can often see the pilots faces. We have even seen them so low they had to rise to go over the pylons.
Good luck with your complaint, they wouldn't respond to one we made.

Hi Jaylen

You might want to phone RAF Wattisham as well to complain as I guess that is where the helicoptors have come from.

We are in Suffolk as well and had the same trouble a few months back. Fortunately our District Councillor who lives just down the road also has a horse and complained - hey presto no more helicoptors

We are near a xc course as well and I understand that the helicoptors caused a horse to bolt with its rider

Hope your horse is ok and no real damage has been done

I am in Suffolk (coastal) and the police seem to do this a lot at night, for a few nights on the trot and then it goes quiet again.
I was on the beach the other day and this came over! He was so low that we waved at eachother. Good job there was no one hacking along the shore at the time! Thats a reason to bolt if I ever saw one!
