Very nappy, rearing horse - help me!

I used to have a bad napper, i never got off when he had a tantrum, it would take a good 20-30 mins for him to stop fighting me but hes learnt now and is an angel. It just seems like your giving them an easy way out by getting off.

thanks so much guys for all the advice! you've given me some great ideas to start with.
thanks especially to vicm2509 - your horse sounds exactly like mine.
i think it is a confidence issue. we think he's maybe been passed from dealer to dealer because of his problems and they've never been faced. i really don't want to get rid of him as i think he could change. and he's a completely different horse in the school and stable! the sad thing is, my boy loves hacking with company! he's really bombproof and relaxed, so hopefully if i get him going on his own, he'll start to enjoy himself!
thanks again everybody, and i hope my next post is announcing my first win at SJ! :P
