i hired out my local competition arena while the bsja course was out as me and my horse arnt very good with fillers! so he was amazing! he stopped once at a filler but jumped it again after!
but, most of it is my fault as i dont trust him, sounds horrid but when we come to the fence, if my stride is perfect then im fine, if i see a long one i dont trust him that he will take it, so i stop riding and end up riding into the bottom of the fence, i dont know why my confidence has gone down in jumping, i havnt had an arena for the best part of two years so didnt do much but i have had one since feb and started jumping again. he behaved imacutlatley but i kept thinking the worst about the fillers, i really want to affilliate him as he has got alot of jump, but i dont know wether i have to balls to do it as i cant decide not to jump a fence coz its got a filler under it and i think hes gona stop.

its so frustrating. sorry for the long and pointless post lol, just abit annoyed

im sure with more practice you will get better with the fillers, i hate spreads dont know why but they seem sooo much bigger than the rest. but as they say practice makes perfect.

Some of the best riders i know however confident they are still sometimes mess up on strides, however many showjumpers dont bat an eye lid at them strides can get complicated especially when you stop ridding. Why dont you spend some time working on strides even over poles, if you start messing up try looking up just to take your mind off where his stride is going! Alot of a good stride comes from a balanced rythmic canter you can also practice this with poles all over your arena which im sure ur extremily pleased to have! Try putting a pole one side and a jump the other side ride the jump the same as the pole. With the fillers you probably have a fear of them because you know your horse has, everyone does it! try and be more positive with them as he needs you there what ever you do try to not stop ridding but ride stronger keep your legs on his sides make him trust you its ok to jump tell him to go over. i dont no if he runs into fences but whatever you do keep your hands still, i see far to many people pull their horses in the mouth and wonder why they stop (not saying you do) just try to think if you do and try to keep them still so the only signals hes getting is go over the fence. lots of strong ridding and practice and im sure youll be out doing thoses british novices! gd luck!
