Evening, this is a bit of a pointless post really but for the first time today I hacked my pansy of a four year old out on her own (normally have someone on foot or another horse) so I'm feeling quite proud and just needed to tell someone! It doesn't sound much of an achievement but she hasn't been the easiest of horses and have been told to give up/send her for dog meat which is just what you want to hear when you need some encouragement! I've brought on quite a few young horses before but this one is quite special to me and I really took it to heart when things go so slow they feel like they'll never happen. Anyway she was good as gold today, a few spooks but not too bad (the wheel trim in the hedge really was pretty scary!) and we met more cars than normal in our quiet lanes. She just took them all in her stride.
She'll probably be a nightmare tommorrow now!!
Thanks for reading! :D

Hey, great feeling isn't it! Well done and glad she's being brave and enjoying her first hack out on her own. I've the opposite problem with my four year old; she's only ever gone out on her own. I've yet to take her out in company - so that'll be a first for us when I can find someone to hack out with.

Well done :)

Well done to you both!

I'm also proud of my 4year old tonight, my other half hacked her out completely alone for the first time tonight. Didn't even have someone to help him get on and wait for him to get back. They even went through the Ford!

I am very proud of her she is fab! My OH is quite nervous about riding and she has done wonders for his confidence.

Big hurrah for all the fab four year olds today!

As someone with a spooky 4yr old baby pony I understand you being proud!!

Sounds like an achievement to me - well done to you both - we have yet to venture out on the roads even in company!

Well done!! you have EVERY reason to be proud solo hack is an achievement in any young horses life and even more so in the case of horses who do not find it as easy as some

So glass of wine for you and lots of carrots for pony :D

Thanks you for all your lovely replies and good luck with your own babies.
Yes she had lots of cuddles and carrots!!
I love the 'big hurrah for all the fab four year olds'!!
I took her out again the next day and even though it was windy she still impressed me. Had to get off once to get past a massive flapping bit of silage sheet but I think sometimes they need some confidance from the ground and she stood perfectly still for me to get on after :)
