My little pony isn't going to make the lead rein pony i had hoped, i just dot think he is going to be quiet enough for me to be comfortable putting my 3 yr old on.

He will begin the backing process in approx. 3 weeks.

So, assuming it all goes well, how much would you expect a new backed 10hh Shetland x welsh 5 yr old gelding, feisty and a bit nervous, to fetch?

My thinking is back him this year, turn away for winter then advertise March time.

Would around £1k be too much? Or would it be more like £500? Less??

Thank you

have to say at the end of the day he is 50% shetland, if it were me selling i would be very pleased with £500.

You could get a nice papered sec A for few hundred pounds at sales, so if I got £200 i'd be pleased enough. Ditto shetlands which I gather were making fifty quid a pop at breeding sales.

My concern would be that if you did get someone to pay alot more than that there's a fair chance the sort of person who'd think that was cheap is probably pretty inexperienced - and it'd be a question for you about whether you'd personally be happy sending him to that sort of home. If he is just a commercial prospect then good luck - i'm always amazed at what some people will pay for horses!

I'd say you'd be more likely to get interest from more experienced people at a lower price - you'll still get the numpties phoning too, but you can easily weed them out.
