now i know its heels down but mine are ridiculous!! they;re TOO FAR down! i'm okay when i do no stirrups, its just when i'm riding with stirrups, its not that they're too short as my instructors looked at them and said even shes unsure at to what the problem is.

its causing aching in my left ankle mostly and puts strain on my calf muscles.

any ideas as to how to get my heels up??

I do this sometimes and my instructor reminds me to put the weight on the ball of my foot and feel like you are really pushing down on the stirrup with your whole foot evenly. This usually evens it out so my heels are normal. Hope that makes sense?

do some non stirrups work, works wonders, thats how i solved my problems, gets you to stretch your leg down and you can realy feel the horse working and get your legs round them

i do reccoment you do ti with supervision though

(i am joking and realise the dangers of it!)

i do this-get the same symtoms(sp!)it helps if you put your foot further back in the stirrup, well it solved my prob!

Are you very flexible in other respects? My friend is "double jointed" in her fingers etc and generally very bendy has the same problem. She has to concentrate very hard on not doing it but manged to pass her NVQ without it.
Actually, you don't happen to ride in those flexi-stirrups do you? I gave mine away because they made me ride with my heels jammed down and my lower leg way too far forward.

does me usually riding a 12.2hh and then swapping to a 16hh horse make the situation change??

i mean so your foot is in the middle. It feels wierd at first and feels like your heel is tipping up, but if you look in a mirrir it wont be.(hope that makes sense)

yep makes sense lol. shall give it a try on the coloured gremlin next time i ride!! hope it helps, i'm fed up of having achey legs!
