Very strange... Saddle fitter

What a complete nutter! That website is hilarious. Surely nobody is really stupid enough to believe it though? It's not even as though you need experience, anyone with common sense could spot the utter twaddle she spouts!

People will want to believe it because its telling them what they want to hear. Like the way people will buy adjustable gullet saddles because they think it will fit any horse. I bet the saddler makes loads of money off people who have had horses change shape a lot or had several saddles from bad fitters, and now they're thinking great I'll buy just this one more saddle from this new woman then that's it I don't have to spend any more. If there's loads of people fitting saddles this way, are they maybe each a franchise of a bigger organisation?

The problem with the individual (female) previously mentioned here is that she's basically one of the only people who sells 2nd hand saddles in the Westcountry; which is why people use her.

IF you know what you want AND are pretty emotionally resilient (and therefore prepared to stand up to her - not easy!) then she may (just!!) be worth a go; and its difficult coz I know two of the people she mentions on her website (god knows why they've let their names appear there tho'). I will say that I had a saddle for my boy from her and it was as cheap and cheerful as was possible to get - and as I hadn't much dosh at the time was very handy, and whilst it wasn't a super-duper saddle, it did do the job reasonably well till I could afford something better.

But OP I had to laugh coz your description of the "saddle fitter" you had sounds just like her! But I knew it probably wasn't coz she didn't suggest the "jelly pad" which she always does do!!! LOL.

He isn't based beds/bucks borders is he - there is one round here who would say something daft like that just to sell a badly fitting saddle

I think i know who you mean......well it's either him or another one just down the bypass on the beds/bucks boarder both have fitted different friends and both nearly ruined horses backs.

Mrs Mozart, she was watching my friend ride as I went past, I was immediately suspicious as age had a sheepskin pad under the saddle which surely would not be conducive to seeing if a saddle fit or not?!?

Bizarre indeed! My saddler fits without anything underneath, but then checks that the saddle still fits when I put the saddle cloth underneath (saddle cloth as the Dizz like it and it saves me cleaning the underneath every ride!:rolleyes:).

My loaner was taken in by her, had very sensitive horse going happy as larry in a well fitted falcon hawk event saddle, she comes out, says its too wide for him, exchanges saddle for one that is incredibley tipped back, one of those bloody gel thingys, says the FH has damaged his back, now horse wont ride properly........

Hi mijodsr2blinkintight,

She may well have mentioned gel pads It was actually a friend from my old yard who had her out, I drove on fairly quickly after she had attempted to feed me the drivel!

Diluteherd, doubt she was joking and I didn't see her when I stopped initially and the minute I realised what was going on I made my apologies and went to leave but she started talking to me!

Well lets hope her clients see sense and eventually she will go out of business. I don't wish bad on anyone but when they are potentially putting horses at risk, Im afraid the horses come first.

I love the bit in the advert where it states 'please speak slowly and clearly' my immediate thought was: yes because you are clearly an idiot!!

Does she even mention her name or specific 'qualification' anywhere in the website? I didn't realise they were selling Christmas crackers with saddle fitting qualifications inside!

Good grief... Bet most of her customers are unsuspecting trusting young ones too who know no better...

I love the way she says '2 in 4 of my callouts are recommended...' So only half of your clients are happy with the service then...

I phoned her, made the mistake of not reading the page first!

Within 10 words I realised she was talking rubbish, and asked if she was qualified. She laughed and said no, they would't have me!

She also told me she could fit a saddle to my 3 y/o which would last her whole life :/

I thought you had to be qualified to legally fit and sell saddles? That's awful, all those horses with ill-fitting saddles due to this charleton!

God, who brags about not being qualified and saying they wouldn't have you! Can you imagine say if you wanted to phone a new vet and they said they weren't qualified because RCVS woudln't have them?! You'd run a county mile. How is this person still in business after all these years? But then I suppose they're not breaking the law by fitting saddles without qualifications either.

so if she's not qualified but is insured i wonder what she's insured for exactly:confused: surely no insurance co is going to insure her for fitting without a single qualification,

anyone got a clue what can be done? I'm also considering trading standards, would quite like the lovely saddle that actually fitted the horse back TBH
ets, I also note that on the site is says to get her to come back out is subject to another call out fee....would be wouldnt it!!

I have noted that para on the website! Shocking! I do intend to take it to trading standards if a master saddler tells me the saddle is not fit for the purpose it was sold for, surely thats enough for them to take action?? I intend to contact her as well, if she swaps my saddle back then I wont be arsed with trading standards although it should never have been taken by her as I actually wrote a letter for the loaners saying if the saddle needed changing then it could be done as long as fitted by a a fully qualified saddler, which she clearly is not!
