Very stressy ex racer advice please?

If you want a second pair of eyes on the ground I'd be happy to have a look at what is going on. Not saying I will spot anything you've missed but you never know.

I know so how you feel about it being disheartening but just keep plugging. I was in a similar situation and now 3 years later I look back and cant believe what a different horse he is. You WILL get there. One day the penny will drop and then you will be away!! Just keep strong and be as patient as you can and you'll get there!! :)

Thank you Juno thats very nice of you where abouts in northampton are you?

Also whilst everyone is being brilliant with all the advice, i went and looked at a new yard last night which was beautiful, i am currently on a working farm with no management and rubbish facilities and very muddy! Now the yard is amazing and is run by an international dressage rider so kept immaculate and has a huge school, but i am totally torn about what to do i dont want to cause him unnecessary stress when he seems happy where he is but the facilities and the potential help from such knowledgeable people will surely be worth it in the long run?
My 1 other concern is now its winter they have brilliant grazing and they want to keep it that way so will only get turned out at lunchtime which they are happy to do for me but he is currently out for 10 hours plus and with his ulcers i dont want them reacurring but he isnt the sort of horse to get stressed by being in!!??
Shall i go for it or stay where i am??!! It is a very quiet well ran yard so may suit him better as i currently have a railway line and a canal running either side of my present yard, with lots of kids, dogs, farm animals and general commotion!

I live in kingsthorpe area but do seem to be traveling around a bit horse wise atm.
TBH neither yard sounds ideal. Turnout would be an issue for me at potential new yard. Lack of facilities also an issue.

Ah not to far at all, i live in Wootton and my horse is currently stabled at rothersthorpe.

Ummm i agree with the concern regarding grazing, i am going back for another look at the weekend in the daylight and may ask if there is any chance to discuss longer turn out time because if they will accomodate it then the yard is beautiful!
And would rather have the facilities as our current school is hurrendous which i think isnt helping and we have hardly any hacking unless you do road work and we are on a very busy cut through lane to the A5 and the new yard has all off road hacking.

If he were mine, I'd cut out all feed except to get ulcer supplements in

Then I would embark on "ponying" training (as the Americans would say!). Basically you need another horse who is an absolute epitome of manners and lead this fellow off them.

Put them in all the situations that would normally make him flip and let him gain confidence from the lead horse. Then gradually start riding out again with this horse. Only once he has chilled out can you start schooling proper.

You'll need a long lead rope (around 3m) and either use a bridle or control headcollar like a Be Nice. Start in an enclosed area and work up from their, off road enclosed hacking is idea

Downside is you need another (well mannered) horse and rider
