My saint of a horse last week started to shake his head out on a hack not much but enough for me to comment to my friend. So thought I would pop a nose net on as they are cutting the fields. Last Sunday rode with a friend set off and he was really unhappy stopping to rub his nose and tossing his head we cut the hack short and notice that in the housing estate he was much better also in the open playing fields with no wind better, as soon as he got close to long grass awful again.
I started to give antihistamines and purchased some GH pollen stuff. left a day or two rode with a net and felt much claimer. I made a mistake yesterday and tried to ride in the out door arena and he was awful turning himself inside out I jumped (ok slid) off straight away realised my mistake of not feeding an hour before but was going to feed after like I normal do in the summer. I had a lesson booked today at the yard went up and feed an hour before he was super uncomfortable in the field and took an age to eat I had to hold the bowl up to him.
I spoke to my RI and suggest trying inside as when he was stood inside he was calmer. we agreed to try a see what he was like and would call it quits if he showed any level on uncomfortableness. As it happened he was awesome back to he calm lazy self and even popping in some walk to canters.
I will try again tomorrow on a hack to see if the combination is working or if the wind and pollen outside are just too much for him. He was never reacted in this way before nothing has changed in his life but we are surrounded by fields. Any one else's horse/pony finding it hard this year.
