my little mare has a very thin(ning) tail...if i comb it out daily with tail spray, it goes claggy and gets thinner...if i leave it until competition days, so as not to keep risking pulling out her hairs, it still keeps getting thinner. anyone else have a similar prob, or, even better, a solution!?!?

My new horse has come to me with a non existent tail

I hate not to do it - but I don't brush it at all, and will resist the temptation to do so. It will just make it worse.

If you really must have a tidy tail, try using your fingers to tease the tangles out gently instead.

Comb it as little as possible. In the winter use a tailbag from Tailgator to keep is out of the mud and in good condition. Just take out every few weeks, run your finger through, apply a little megatek or similar leave in conditioner, plait up and pop back in the back and forget about it.

Mix megatek rebuilder 50 - 50 with water and apply to the roots and comb through to the ends with your fingers every day for a few months and then reduce to couple of times a week. It is a great product for improving hair strength and encouraging hair growth.

They also so a wonderful detangler and conditioner called survivior - I personally swear by it.
