Hi all, so in reference to my last post (about the sponsored ride) Im in need of some more advice..
The last few hacks (we mainly use the grass gallops) with my horse have been a nightmare, hes fine while hes on a long rein but as soon as I pick up a contact he thinks go (teeth and back etc all checked).
Today was the worst, when I asked for trot hed manage about 2 strides before plunging into canter and when I felt I could let him go for a bit the little ****** grabbed the bit and tanked off, it wasnt fun feeling like I was ripping on his mouth just to get him to slow down (I couldnt circle because theres a river one side and a ditch the other!)
Well, I ended up working him for about two hours - doing transitions every few strides, reinback and leg yielding until he would happily go from canter - halt without me feeling like I had to really fight him for it. The plan was to tire him out and then make him keep going so he realises its not that fun but hes a lot fitter than I expected! Hes 10 but wasnt backed until he was 7, so I expect baby moments but I cant have him tanking off when he feels like it.
Hes in a French link Eggbutt at the moment, any bit recommendations or anything that I can do to stop him being such a ******!
