Call out (non emergency) and examination 25 minutes - £100.41

Lameness investigation, nerve block, X rays, sedivet, dolorex, epicaine, primapore - £271

5 days hospitalisation - £97

Not complaining or anything... but really hope my insurance pay out!

Dont talk to me about vet bills.. I got one yesterday from JUNE!

Ive pair out over 2000 in the last twelve months, i finaly think that i have them all paid off, and I received another one =o(

What Im a little concerned about now is, I cant understand what treatment they have actually given my horse? He has been diagnosed with arthritis in the hock, and the vet said he had been injected in the joint with steroids or something to help that arthritis (he is having 2 more injections tomorrow and next week).

The list of drugs however seem to just be sedatives, pain killers and anaesthetics? I was expecting to see something like adequan?

Maybe someone with more knowledge on this could help? I will speak to the vet tomorrow for clarification, maybe I have misunderstood?
 
steriod injections woul dbe for treatment of arthritis certainly.

Give your vets a call and ask for a break down over the treatment you have received.

The bill contains a breakdown of everything administered (down to £1.50 worth of bandage!)

The only drugs listed are sedivet (seditive), intra epicaine (aneasthetic) and dolorex (analgesic). So pain relief stuff, but nothing that would actually help the joint as far as I can see? I cant see any steroid injections or adequan or anything like that listed? Would there be a reason why they wouldnt use them yet?

I will speak to vets tomorrow, but wondered if there was a reason, e.g. had to get all the pain relief out of his system before they can give adequan? He is not on bute or anything, they wanted him on box rest but have backed down on that after they watched him canter and weave round his stable in a mad sweat for the 3 days he was in horsepital.
 
Maybe because it is an on going treatment (the adequan) that it will be billed seperately when the full 21 day course is over?

Sedative for the x-ray. Anaesthetic for the nerve block. The charges are really good imo. Having spent upwards of £800 quite recently for lameness work up and other bits and bobs.
 
Curdog - thats a good point, maybe that will be it.

Sally - I agree. Their call out is quite expensive (£100 to come out and look at the horse!), but they are not the most local vets to me. Their sevice is well worth it though, my only issue is that I don't always understand whats going on (and thats probably more my fault than theirs, I'm useless at asking the right questions!)
 
I know thats what happened with us ! Seeing as it was for the whole course we were billed at the end of the 21days , not separately every 4 days!

i would doubt that they have medicated the joint yet as have to give time for the block to wear off and get out of the system. once the joint is medicated you will probably have to box rest for a few days to minimise risk of infection in the joint. phone them up and ask what exactly has been done so far, and what they are going to medicate the joint with. you may only have received the first part of the bill for the initial diagnostic work!!
 
They had medicated the joint, with hyonate, but I won't get the bill for it until he has had the third injection (As Curdog correctly stated!). They are going to get me a joint supplement, vet thinks its called cortavet, but said he'll have to check!

ofcourseyoucan - he was supposed to be on box rest last week, but he doesn't do box rest very well at all and they decided he was better off out than weaving and charging around in a sweat!

Fingers crossed all will go well, I am to start riding next week so hoping it goes smoothly!
