Okay will list the following and would like people's ideas as what they would expect the cost to be for pony

2 x call outs
1 x teeth being done by vet
1 x tub of ventapulmin (sp)
1 x yearly boosters

Originally should of been just one call out for the lot but wouldn't do boosters as kept coughing when did teeth hence meds and the second call out.

£35 per call out - £70
Teeth - £25
Ventapulmin - £50
Vaccs - £25

These based on what my vet charges, who is very reasonable imo.

Therefore £180? But guessing I am way out!!!!!
 
Grrrr bl**dy phone.

Never had ventapulmin and have dentist for teeth. Also call out is only £6 as surgery on my doorstep.
Sidney's quote sounds about usual though.
 
iv'e never had ventipulmen (well i have but was years ago so can't remember cost :o )

call outs £40 each = £80
teeth £60 (price without sedation ) (reason i don't get my vet to do it anymore :eek: has doubled since last year)


booster £23 (just had my bill :) )

so £163 , this is approx what it would cost through my vets

x £40 ish at a guess for ventipulmen so £203 all together

Call out for us is £25 plus £25 exam horse fee is applicable
Teeth is about £25 I think
Ventapulmin costs £60 a tub from our vets
Don't have a clue for boosters sorry (never looked at that bit)
 
The answer is £280!!! Nearly keeled over as pony is on loan and the lady had asked if I would help so said yes coz I'm nice now regretting that big time :( my girl had her jabs and only cost me £80 so was a bit shocked at the amount and she asked if we could spilt it 50/50 :O need to work out a polite way of saying can u double check it :(
 
I guess it would depend on whether the vet examined the pony prior to prescribing the ventapulmin?

My vet charges something like £45 per callout, but to actually look at the horse it's another £30 odd!!!

(plus vat!!)
 
Some of the peeps posting on here have just included call out fee, alll the vets I know charge a call out fee but then also an examination fee per animal, so that would bump it up to a lot closer to the £280 tho that probably is still at top end.

I tend to get as much as poss done in one 'MOT' visit for mine, teeth jabs and tapeworm blood test are all done in one visit, since Im paying the callout and exam fees per visit.

It is hellishly expensive.
 
I don't pay an examination fee when they are having a dental, but do I think with a vaccination. I always try and get pre planned things like this done on my vets half price zone days, which bring the call out down to around £20.
 
Can you ask for a breakdown of the bill so you can get a good idea what you've been charged for what?
The first time I had domestin (wonderful sedative given like a wormer before dentist visit) they charged me an examination fee (£30 for a 2 min listen to his heard) but after that I have it again and again without the exam fee. Was it the first time you'd had the drugs?

Sounds about right..
 
Assuming the 2x visits also had examination fees and depening on what duration the ventapulmin was percribed for = and if it was flu and tecnus or just one then I would say its about right too. Do you have the horse on full loan or just a part share. with full loan my experience is the loanee is resonsible for all day to day costs such as those, if the horse is on part share then paying a percentage towards the cost dependent on how many days you share the horse for is reasonable unless your loan/share contract says the owner will still be resonsible for these expenses then unreasonable to ask for contribution.

It's my pony but a lady on the yard loans him from me as a companion for her mare. I think I will ask to see the bill to compare and one of the call outs was on their 'cheaper' call out days. A little irritating as recommended the dentist I use who charges £60 and she made a comment about being too expensive. Just annoying as that's another £100 spent that could of been saved but I guess with horses it always ends up that way lol
