Now that I've a new horse, I'm looking around for a vet. Have rang a few places to get their charges for call out and the like, and then dang near fainted. So I'm wondering - what are the call out/consultation charges in your area like? I'm in Glos and the ones I've spoken with were £48 for call out for one, and £26 for call out/£29 for consult for the other.

Visit charges will vary depending on how far you are from each individual vet clinic...some charge more than others most will range between £25 and 60 depending on how far you want to get the vet to travel. Often clinics will offer reduced price days - marketed as routine yard or zone visits. These carry either a nominal fee (we charge £9.50) or may even be free! :D They depending conditions like routine work only, pre booked 24-48hours in advance, you often won't be ablt to specify vet or time of call out.....but they do help for the vaccs, teeth, check ups etc.

Our first consultation fee is £42 and that cover 30mins of our time for you....longer calls are charged accordingly and shorter consults as well...but clinics vary greatly in this.

More investigative callouts - e.g. lameness, pre-breeding checks, wounds such as stitch ups may carry set fees, but can often be based on time due to the variation.

Hope that gives you some starting point.
