Vet check after OCD operation

Affy is now at her 12 week post op stage and we have the vet coming out. she still has localised swelling on one hock but seems to walk/trot without lameness. How long did it take your horses legs to go down after the op. I'm just dreading the furrowed brow and the statement "it hasnt progressed at it should", or am I just being stupid and this is normal?

Did she have a support boot on the hock in the post-op period? I had oe who had a chip removed - and we didn't expect the swelling to go RIGHT down - but with the aid of a very nifty zip-up boot (which was a PIG to put on) the swelling went right down - and stayed down.

But a bit of swelling doesn't mean that the op hasn't been a success - it's just a bit of local fluid (like windgalls - but of less relevance!)

Yes she had bandages then tubi grip and finally the nifty zip up leg thing but once the swelling went down it kept falling off. The good news is she's trotted up sound and balanced today for the vet and he's not worried about the swelling on one hock because she's sound on it, Hurray!

It took a while for my fellow to be right after his op. He had both hind legs done, and I spelled him a year.

I probably over did it, but while the vet said he was okay, I felt he was still not quite right. Not lameness but some stiffness, or similar.

If he is showing no signs of lameness after 12 weeks I would be pleased. I would ask the vet about the swelling, that may improve as he starts work.

My horse had an OCD op on his hock at 3 years old. The piece they removed was very large and left the hock capsule enlarged with a swelling, he is now 9 and he still has a soft/lump swelling on the outer side of it. It has never caused him a problem and he show jumps at 1.10m, goes XC, and dressage.
