I have a minor dilemma regarding my current vets.

Whilst nice, friendly people their facilities (ie. scanning / xraying) are zero - you automatically get referred to the minor ailments hospital 30 miles away or the Dick vets (4 hrs away

My girl is broken, they haven't done a lameness workup (and have no intention of doing so) they simply want to send her to the Dick to be looked at there.

There is another local vets practice who do have xray / scanning machines and who could come and do a lameness workup without the hassle of having to drive for hours.

However, for them to even look at my girl I have to change vets to their practice.

Now, the practicality problem: Horsey started treatment with my current vet and has run up a bill which I was intending to put through my insurance (NFU) Will NFU pay both vets or is it likely to be an issue with them?

I do plan to ring both NFU and other vet either this afternoon or Monday but have no idea how to approach the insurance issue.....

Am having a blonde day

Ring NFU, explain the situation and ask them there take on it. NFU are fabulous and will try all they can to help you.

Horses are bains in the arses!

Hi,

Have you had a diagnosis from your original vet? If x-rays / scan are beneficial, and that is all they are planning to send you to Edinburgh for, I would phone NFU and see what they say, as I wouldn't be wanting to put a broken horse through a journey as far as that if someone local can do it.

I had a vets that had facilites but refused to listen & do investiagtion work when i said my girly was not right.
So i sought a second opinion with a second vet & swopped to that practice.
My insurance company KBIS were great about it, i wrote down what had happened & why i had done what i had done & they paid up.
I would swop vets.

Nope, original vet not interested (another reason to change me thinks!) They gave her Danilon and said that they'd rather she went to the Dick to be looked at.

I'm fairly convinced it's a lower leg problem rather than a back problem so I'd rather it was looked at locally.....

Phone NFU and explain why you wish to change vets. Pretty sure they wouldn't want you to undertake such a long journey either.

NFU are brilliant. I have had a similarISH problem.
one vet who took x-rays gave me an opinion i wasn't happy with so i got a second opinion. I wasn't sure if NFU would pay for a second lot of X-rays as the first vets had already done them.
I explained my situation they were fine for me to get a second opinion and happy for me to have more x-rays.
They said more x-rays would be fine but it will eat away at the money I have available. Which i thought was really nice and practicle.
