Vet Fees Insurance Excess

My horse recently went into the vets on a referral as he was lame and we couldn't find out why.

After bone scans, x-rays etc it transpired he had problems with his sacroilliac joint and also his left fetlock and pastern.

The claims have gone into my insurers who have now deducted my excess twice. I have spoken to the vets who say this is normal as there are now two claims - one for the front end and another for the back end as they are unconnected problems.

I am a bit surprised however & I am now in a position of havng to pay 2 excesses which at £500 a throw is no joke.

Has anyone else had this problem and is that normal?

Paying the 2 excesses is perfectly normal, I wouldn't expect any different.

£500 excess per claim is very high, but presumably you knew this when you took out the policy. Most excesses are in the region of £120 although I have taken out a cheaper policy with KBIS and accepted a £250 excess.

Yes I did know this as I have saved the difference on the premiums I've paid.

The up side is that I thought I had reached my limit on what I could claim but I have now affectively had my claiming ability doubled!

The down side is that I need to find £1000 now and he is still very lame.

Ive never had that problem - although the last time I had a similar situation with a horse was over 5 years ago. Sounds a bit of a con to be honest
