A big thank you to all who offered advice last week....Not arthritis. Vet thinks she has a slight conformational defect in her pastern which means she tends to put a bit too much weight on the outside edge of her foot. Obviously as she gets older, it tends to take her a little longer to work through the initial stiffness and strain this causes. the vet has spoken to the farrier( excellent guy) and suggested we try bar shoes. Otherwise she is in fine fettle, though VERY naughty in the school today as she cd JUST spy the new poly tunnel and clearly it was out to get her.... HORSES!!!

Thats good news girl.. I was reading your thread last week and was worried for you.. My guy has just been diagnoised with arthiritis and it started like your girl.. So glad its not that your girls got.. At least you can get bar shoes on her and see how she goes. Good news for you tho. bet you were worried.. Hope all goes well for you..

Thanks, madmuppet! Saff was 100% on the flexion tests, which is why he doesn't think arthritis...but have to face inevitable consequences of ageing...on her and me!!!
Very sorry about your guy..there are supplements which may help? Glucosamine etc...that cortaflex stuff may be beneficial/
Good luck.

Just to say, dont be fooled completely by flexion tests.... merlin passes them sound but has the most arthritis infested fetlock in history (still sound though)

Dont think the vet quite believes it!!!

thanks for that apricotfox. Hes getting IRAP treatment and hes on New Market Joint Supplement.. Finally hes went sound. Hes also on Egg Bar shoes.. Got to try everthing for him,, hes only 6.. Fingers crossed all goes well with your babe...

I give my 20 YO girl Devils Claw from Holland and Barrett. It really helps her with the hard ground and keeps her really supple. If you get it in their 'better than half price sale' you can get 200 capsules for £4.99. I feed 2 a day so it last ages! Really really worth a try!

The glucosamine and chondritin would also be good to help the joint cope.

Good luck and let me know how you get on!!
