VET HELP PLEASE swollen lower leg ... *pics*

I caught Sol this p.m. and she was and arse , she bolted and gallop off round the field with the lead-rope round her legs ..
I walked her down from the field
washed her legs and found this

I cold hosed it for ten minutes and then my mum walked her up ..

I've put her in the stable and will be going down again in 30 minutes to check her and hose again
But wondered if anyone new what she could have done ?
I've rung YM and he said he'd try and pop down to see it and I will be calling the VET in 30 mins if swelling has increased .
So please dont think i've left her injured to come and post on here

Also .. I have measured the swelling

Red line ( circumference round leg )- 12.6 inches

Blue Line - ( circumference round leg ) - 9.8 inches
 
Have no idea, maybe she has pulled something, get the vet. I do hope your horse is ok..sending positive vibes to you both.
 
I havnt looked at the video yet, but the swelling is around the anular ligament. Initially cold hose and ice pack (frozen peas will do at this stage, obviously with a bandage underneath) for no more than an hour at a time. The more you cold hose for 20 mins and ice pack for half an hour, the better.

She may well have just tweaked something, but best to treat as a tendon injury, just in case.
 
Ok , thankyou .. Sorry to sound daft put I need to bandage her and then put and ice pack round the bandage and then bandage again ?

Id cold hose, put that on and then bandage overnight! See what its like in the morning as to whether to call the vet or not! May have just tweaked it as others have said! IS there any heat?
 
Cold hose for 20 mins, put gamgee or ideally something thinner around the tendon, a towell or such so that the ice doesn't burn the skin, ice pack for an hour. Repeat as often as possible. Box rest until vet gets there. Dont give bute otherwise it will mask any problem.

It may be nothing hun, but this is what I would do as a safety first.

Don't panic, it could be as "simple" as a brewing foot abscess. My boy came in walking like that in the evening - the following morning he was on 3 legs and was swollen where yours is. I was freaking out thinking how could he have done his tendon and it turned out to be an abscess. 2 bandages as said above and a nice deep bed until you can get the vet out.

Went down and cold hosed it etc and have put a bale of shaving down and left her eating her tea ...

Vet is coming tomorrow AM .. fingers crossed all will be ok .

How is she?
This is very similar to what our mare had except hers was about 10 times the size! She had an infection in the leg and about a week later it burst at the heel. Sadly she then got laminitis, but she certainly recovered well from the infection

She is great this AM !!
She is sound and happy to run away from me round the stable .
Heat has gone down and swelling seems to have reduced .
On further inspection she has over-reached slightly on the inside of her leg .Which YM thinks may have caused swelling as she's prone to bashing herself pretty hard

That is exactly what happened with my mare a few weeks ago. I did have the leg scanned just in case though. Luckily it was a blow to the tendon rather than a break down and she is fine now. I would still be wary for a couple of days if I were you though!
