Vet needed?

mare came in from the field yesterday with a cut on her hind leg. Reckon she’s caught herself rolling with her back shoes.

Yesterday she had honey put on and this morning it was washed and antiseptic cream on.
She’s not lame but looks sore and stiff. There’s no heat to it but it’s abit swollen.

Given her some bute this evening (well as much as she’d eat her food ) and she’s actually staying out all night tonight so hopefully that helps.

I'd not call a vet but i would wash it down with warm salty water.

It looks long but is shallow and relatively clean.

I would try to keep it that way by washing off twice a day , Manuka honey is a great idea and talk to your vet if the lameness persists or it looks to be getting infected.

Another who thinks that warm salt water washes, followed by manuka honey is a good way to go.

Fab thank you! After a few expensive vet visits for our other girl last year I don’t fancy paying out if not needed

She seems abit stiff but given her bute and hopefully that helps. Taking her on a walking hack tomorrow to help move her about. She’s 18 so trying to make sure she’s still mobile as possible (although she’s absolutely feral and you’d think she was 5 still!)

It has healing and antibacterial properties. You can buy Manuka dressings or just slather it on a wound. Needs to be high grade and is expensive to buy. Pure Gold is one of the best at around £40 for a small jar.

I use this on all my wounds and cuts and I agree that looks ok and to keep up with the wound ointments
