ok so my horses are due their teeth anyway but I noticed gelding has a inch lump under jaw near cheek bone, he has been wearing a grazing muzzle and there was alot of grass left in bottom of it for last few days more thsan normal hence on investigation I found the lump. He is still eating ok incl his hard feed. My question is would you get vet first or edt? I have already phoned my edt just waiting for callback, I need to get vet out on one of the tues coming up (thats my zone day)as my other horse is due her jab. But unsure who to have out first....

thanks :)

I would get a vet, i always have my vet to come and do teeth anyway as they have to be trained at that. Then they always have sedation and other drugs with them if needed ie. bute.

Vets can be dentists but dentists cant be vets and i would think they may tell you to get one out too but then you will be paying for both.

My edt is Victoria Hammond she's a forum member so fully qualified. I did think if he needed anti-b's then vet would be port of call, but even when I asked for vet to do their teeth back along I assumed they would send vet which was a BAEDT as well but they didn't hence cancelling the teeth check. I just don't want vet to go and do teeth would rather my normal edt and then get prescription from vet if needs be etc. :)

The lump may be a rub from the muzzle but more likely an abscess which will require the vet, I dont think it sounds like something a dentist can treat.

I didn't mean dentist could treat it but i'd rather she checked teeth and vet dealt with the lump etc as I know which vet they will send and vet is not a qualified BAEDT. I thought the same re muzzle so took it off when I noticed lump. It is not sore to touch etc. Anyway have called my edt so will await a call back. :)

Forgot to say lump isn't sat along jaw line it's inbtween slightly more one side than other, but it's free standing iykwim :)
