vet or EDT

In the past I have always used an EDT but having struggled to get an EDT this time round and with vaccinations due, I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
As the vet was unloading her kit from the car and before she'd even seen my horse or asked about her – she was talking about sedation. I insisted that she had never been sedated for dental treatment before and was always very well behaved. In the end she conceded that she would ‘try’ without sedation.
Then came the gag, which she struggled to get on – saying my horse had a funny shaped mouth! I don’t think she has a funny shaped mouth and the EDT’s in the past had never had a problem with the gag. Also she placed her rasps in my horses water bucket, so no disinfectant etc.
The whole examination and treatment felt far less thorough and more rushed than I was used to with EDT’s – next year I will be getting an EDT.
The thing that made me cross is that on their website they make a big deal about using a vet over an EDT for dentistry

I've always used an EDT - my lad's previous owner had only used the dentist and even with sedation he was apparantly wild so all his vet records regarding his teeth simply say "slight rasp due to horse getting stressed even with sedation"

Got and EDT out just after I'd bought him and he stood like a lamb to get his teeth done and has done ever since - I agree that my EDT was more thorough - can't imagine my current vet handing my horse as well - I think some vets feel uncomfortable doing it hence the rushed job and the insistance on sedation!

I would always get a EDT, unless the vet has trained as a specialist in dentistry then a EDT is by far the better option.

I have 2 sedated and 2 not sedated.
