My pony has thrush in her hooves and the vet said a cap of iodine in a couple of inches of water, applied twice a day for a week.

I can only get to the yard once a day, so she is getting it done only once. Started on Monday and today her frogs feel really hard. To be fair, they look loads better, but I am concerned at how hard they are!

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it safe?

Thanks

For seedy toe u can.used Milton dilute with.10 parts water, soak weekly or spray every other day..however sounds like u may have a stubourn infection. Get dum clean Trax. Its about 15 but should sort u out. They use it to clean broken bones in hospital. X

You get milton from the chemist or supermarket. It's used for disinfecting baby bottles etc. Don't get the ready mixed, scented spray, get pure solution or tablets.
Cleantrax is another disinfectant developed for use in bladder washes. Google and it will come up. It is used as a soak and for 40 mins.

Use either or, not both.

Hi. Just use liquid Milton not tablets. I am led to believe tablets r not as effective. This should do the job of clearing up thrush. And I think its only a couple of pounds max for a bottle.

If that doesn't work try clean Trax. U can google it or go to equine podiatry supplies.co.uk I would use this only for really bad infections/seedy toes/abcesses/puncture wounds.

I am currently using iodine on my mares lami feet she has an abscess and we need to keep her feet clean of bacteria.

The paintbrush does go hard so bet keep in jar of water in between using it.
